Crystal Balls coming in for 2020 OC Reece Atteberry to Michigan
Since last night, crystal balls from Sam Webb, Tom Loy, and Steve Lorenz have been coming in for 2020 OC Reece Atteberry. He's a surprise visitor on campus for this weekend and has been at different points been supposed to favor OSU and ND. Currently ranked 3-star (#404) on composite, and 4 star (#206) on 247.
We will gladly accept OSU’s fuck up
How did they fuck up? Didn't they blow it with JJ Mcarthy as well? I gladly welcome our new OSU fucks up recruiting overlords
They kind of pussyfooted around with allowing him to commit when he wanted to, and that turned him off and then I think they wanted him and he said nah, IIRC.
Why would OSU consider this kid when they already had a commitment from the #1 center in the same class?
Here is a bro centric article from a few days ago talking about how OSU dropped him. Would be wonderful to have both the 2020 QB and OC harboring a deep hatred of OSU before even getting on campus.

OSU got a pretty highly rated QB commit, I don't think they really blew it with McCarthy so much as had a different guy they favored.
Obviously OSU put the word out the dude they took was atop their board but that doesn't mean much.
OSU told JJ they were waiting until the end of summer to take a QB. Then JJ started appearing to show favor elsewhere including coming off of a Michigan visit with glowing quotes. After that OSU took their commit.
Impossible to know from the outside if the other guy was higher on their board or JJ's Michigan/ND interest changed their calculus on waiting and Day took the bird in hand.
Jack Miller was the top QB on their board, their calculus didn’t change. Sets up perfectly for UM tho, just as it did/will with Reece. OSU takes their guy and as a result UM lands a talented player who has a real animosity for them.
edit : McCord .
Miller is '20 the JJ recruiting story involves OSU taking a '21 before the summer when they said they'd wait to take one (though to be clear JJ didn't offer a commitment for them to turn down).
Both got guys who are highly ranked and they wanted so it's kind of moot.
OSU got their QB, we got ours. Gonna be interesting to see how this turns out in 3 to 4 years
Pretty sure it was ND that blew the JJ McCarthy deal, not OSU.
Do we really need another offensive coordinator?
FIRE BAKICH!
Gattis is gonna be pissed. He thought he was calling the plays.
You beat me to it. Well played. Michigan just hired Gattis and all. I'm sure this won't sit well with with him.
As one of the acronym-challenged, the only other thing I could come up with was outside crusher.
I thought we were recruiting an "ornery coot"
Is he from Orange County?
Atteberry has a pretty impressive offer list, including (besides OSU and ND) both USC's, Penn St, Oklahoma, Oregon, Iowa, and Nebraska.
Also see an offer from Cal, so apparently he also plays school.
And he's also pretty good at baseball for someone his size (6'5" 285). Plays 1b.
I wonder how legit that 6'5" measurement is? That feels on the taller side for the interior OL, which could be interesting.
Steve Everitt was a 4 year starter and 1st team all big ten @ 6'5".
Had a decent pro career as well.
Don't call me Chris!
Go Blue!
He's the #4 OC according to 247, and #8 to the composite. Still seems like centers are generally lower rated than other positions, given even on 247 the #8 OC is a three star.
Looks like OSU has the #1 OC, so maybe couldn't take both (assuming both are centers only and couldn't be guards).
In any case, would be a huge pick up.
His composite ranking may be lower because Rivals is ranking him as a tackle. At best he should be a guard.
I increasingly ignore the composite rankings and only pay attention to 247's. Can't trust any other recruiting site anymore. Rivals and ESPN are both badly flawed.
I agree with this
I thought Ohio State just grabbed all the tackles and converted them to guard and center as needed?
Do we like him as a tackle or on the inside?
The thread title says Michigan likes him at offensive coordinator.
steven, don't listen to mgoblue98. he is being recruited for orange county.
How the hay!!?
Nice, Mountain West pipeline and probably a little salty at OSU and ND.
GoBlue Reece!
Ah yes, when blue balls are a good thing.
Sometimes things just work out. Sam and Steve are saying that Notre Dame and OSU basically filled up along the line, and Michigan is ready to offer the perfect landing spot. Michigan's staff has been quite high on him for a while.
OSU has 5 OL in their class so makes sense they are full. ND only has 2 though...
I had to check out their classes and ND has a guy from Germany, maybe following what Harbaugh did with Julius? And OSUs OL class is a little odd. 2 studs and then a guy from De La Salle we were never interested in, a guy ranked 700+, and a guy ranked 1000+ with only other offers coming from the MAC.
Was Maizen there letting them know that they will never be able to compete with Clemson and Alabama with prospects ranked that low?
Atteboy, Reece!
What is the point of the O in OC?
On defense, this thing is called a nose guard, correct?
I don't get it.
It’s just the abbreviation man. I don’t make the rules. May be just to differentiate between center in football vs basketball. Same thing for guard
If he just used "C", people would say he's too short and question Juwan's recruiting.
247 uses OC for football, probably to avoid problems with their player database.
I wonder also if it's to avoid confusion with "Captain"?
Or, it could just be for consistency since we use OG and OT to differentiate from DT? Come to think of it, every position uses 2 letters..so is CE or CR better?
Fresh CBs on Mitchell Melton and Kalel Mullings to the good guys, too.
Mullings is awesome so that rules. Melton is a LB/DE (3 star but OSU is after him hard and reportedly the M staff is high on him) so maybe they're looking at him as an Uche?
So many linebackers.
Melton's frame/athleticism and tape suggest he might slide down to WDE more like Winovich. Melton's 247 profile lists him as an inch taller and 20 lbs heavier than Uche was. This would make sense of the offer since the staff cooled on Powell this year and depending on if they keep pursuing Mestidor.
Could be but I could also see him as an edge setting/pass rushing hybrid alongside a three man front on standard downs based on his tape.
Speculating there because regardless of how the numbers work out it seems like they're taking a ton of second level of the defense guys which supports the idea we're going to see a lot more of three man lines in the future.
Nua has been mostly an odd front guy as well. I'm sure they'll be multiple but that has to help implementing the three man stuff.
Sam Webb also put in a CB for 3* CA OT Jeffrey Persi. He's 6'7" and was offered back in January. He's a 4* to Rivals, who get things right sometimes.
Seriously, the quality of their rankings varies depending on geography as much as anything.
...or when they give our guy more stars than 24/7.
So an OL class of Zinter, Mazzccua, Persi, Atteberry, and ?
Sounds good to me.
