Crisler Advice
Taking my sons to our first Michigan basketball game on Saturday. Are there plenty of cash spots off Keech or should I spring for a parking pass next to the building? Pardon my ignorance, I've frequented several football games but never been out for a hoops game.

$10 to park at Pioneer across from the golf course or residential for free. More of a walk but if it's decent out, that's what I'd do.

This is what keeps me from basketball games. If the weather isn't decent, you could spend 20-30 minutes walking in 15 degree weather or worse.
You can dress for the weather but who wants to watch a basketball game dressed like an ice road trucker?

Parking stops you from going to a sporting event?
What a country this is.

I'm sure he means, "This is one of the many reasons why..."
Face it. Parking for Michigan basketball games stinks. You have to pay sometimes upwards of $20, walk a mile in the cold/wind/rain/snow, then after the game you get to do it again. It's a pain, especially with children.

The parking situation is mentioned every single time the low attendance situation is mentioned. The University's way to address it is to have someone pay money to park at Pioneer or in some strange person's driveway.
They could easily build a parking structure right next to Crisler and hook it up to the building.

It's $10 at the high school and a very short walk.

I've seen it $20 at Pioneer before and depending on how full it is, it might be a 10 minute walk.
I guess the price goes up and down depending on the game, maybe...

Pull your suspenders back up over your wifebeater; have another beer. This doesn't really require some global comment about how all of our backbones are dissolving. Save the speeches for something more pertinent/important.

How old are your kids? If you wouldn't mind some walking you'll get to the spots that cost $0.00 in a few blocks. As with football, the drop from "Park in my front yard for $##!" to $0.00 happens over a short distance.

Yeah they are 27 and 19 so a hike isn't out of the question.

Yeah, I think your little guys should be able to make that walk.
Enjoy the game!

There is a $10 cash lot we park in behind the North Michigan Stadium scoreboard. Short walk to Crisler.

Those are the lots I'm speaking of. Are they fairly easy to get in or do they fill up fast?
December 8th, 2019 at 9:20 PM ^
Depends on when you arrive. I get there when the doors open every game and there's usually no one around.

Why didn't somebody tell me about this secret lot?
December 10th, 2019 at 8:22 AM ^
It was right there...all along.

Cash spots off Keech for $10 are good. Check out Mgoblue for parking maps. Plenty of parking if you get there a bit early.

Get there early and make the indoor loop around the area. It's gorgeous, there's a bunch of interactive displays and be sure to find all of Trey's hardware. :)

That's the plan!

So I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't been in Crisler since the 80's. Do they still have the photo of Charles White fumbling displayed? I've always loved/hated that shot...

We usually just park at Pioneer for $10, even walking with our 5 year old. Easy in and out. I like parking there cause it’s easy to get out to head home after, so I would just advise to park somewhere that gets you out easier to the direction you need.

Street parking is abundant, don’t pay.

If you arrive early (doors open 90 min prior to game time) you should be able to find no charge street parking fairly easily. I usually park west of The Big House on one of the side streets running west off Main. Try Keech. It’s not a bad walk from there.

Let's meet up. Give me the cash and your car keys. I'll find you a spot.

Depends on how lazy you're feeling. We park at Hoover Street Auto for the football games; it's about as close as you can get to Michigan Stadium/Crisler without having parking in the school-owned lots.
We park in the Blue Lot (right outside Crisler) for hoops, so I'm not sure what Hoover Street Auto is doing for the basketball games. Give them a call and see if you can reserve a spot. They probably charge $10 or 20...given their proximity to the arena.

There is almost always plenty of space on the streets off of Seventh in the vicinity of Allmendinger Park. Park on the street for free and it's a 10-15 minute walk to Crisler.

The street parking is increasingly harder to find as the City of Ann Arbor has been eliminating street parking to make bike lanes.

This is such a great things to be (finally) done by the city. Thank you for reminding everybody how important it is to forget about cars and become better at using our legs to walk, bike and run or simply jump in one of those -weird things called- buses.
