Corum & Oluwatimi Walter Camp 1st Team AA, Moody 2nd Team.
Blake Corum and Olusegon Oluwatimi selected as 1st team Walter Camp All Americans. Jake Moody made the 2nd team after being a 1st team last season.

Moody aint #1? Nobody I’d rather have. His swagger is epic.

He got beat out by the same guy who won the Groza.

I'm no mathematician. But it doesn't make any sense that the second-best center in the Big 10 is a first team AA.

It is strange that when the Buckeyes lead the conference, they let them clean up the Big10 awards. But when we win, we seem to be capped at just a few.
yea I’m whining, but fuck Ohio.

The narrative continues, that we were lucky again, and OSU would be favored in a rematch, we couldn't possibly repeat so many big plays, blah, blah, blah. I like it. The overconfidence can continue forever and does nothing but help us. And makes Buckeye tears taste better.

There were a lot of great kickers this year. The first team player and Groza award winner, Christopher Dunn was 24 of 25 this year, hitting 10 of 11 from 40-55 yards. Certainly a great kicker and deserving of awards.
But for my money - I wouldn't trade Moody for him or any of the others. Kid has icewater in his veins and was fucking MONEY when we needed it throughout his career. He is the best kicker in the history of Michigan football - and it really isn't even close. Amazing story for an unheralded kid out of Northville.
Go Blue!!!

Did the people who vote on these things just get bored with Jake Moody this year?
December 9th, 2022 at 9:44 AM ^
Agree completely - we've been quite spoiled with Moody, not sure what next year brings, but I'll worry about that next year.

Moody did miss 6 FG attempts this year to Dunn's single miss this year. Dunn did what Moody did last year, so to the victor goes the spoils. I think both have pro careers ahead of them.
December 9th, 2022 at 10:13 AM ^
4 of those 6 misses were 50+.
Dunn only tried 2 kicks over 50 all year.
Both great seasons, but Moody got punished for being too good last year and trying one too many 50+ when people were watching, i.e., OSU.

Moody got punished for being too good last year
It's like when people stopped voting for Michael Jordan for MVP in the 90s. Hell yes, the comparison is appropriate!

Dunn only tried 2 kicks over 50 all year.
That's a little disingenuous to neglect to mention that he hit both of them, which means that he hit as many kicks over 50 yds. as Jake did. Moody shouldn't get rewarded for attempting four extra kicks that he missed. And, even if you took out the 50+ yarders, Dunn still was better from 40-49 yds. and on all kicks under 50. Jake is an awesome kicker, but the voters didn't exactly have a choice given the stats.

There is always choice, even on your way to the gallows.

I'd give him the aware solely based on his performance in the Illinois game. After watching what that poor dog had to go through with the frisbee, it felt like a miracle that anything went through the air as planned, much less an entire game of great shots.
I'm a little biased, though. Just a little

I have to believe Oluwatimi improved his NFL draft stock by coming to UM for one final year... that should bode well for future transfers into the program - Come here, to this big stage, and advance your future opportunities.

What a pick up for M and amazing season for Olu! Seems like this calculus may have factored into LaDarius Henderson's recent decision and hoping Okie enjoys a boost to his draft stock as well. Those Who Stay Will Be Champions. Saw someone else say it: Go Blue, then Go Pro! Pretty good portal pitch.

Give Moody credit, he tried quite a few kicks out of his range this year. He could have said “no” and his FG% would have looked even better to voters. Team player.
December 9th, 2022 at 9:49 AM ^
Totally agree. And in pretty much every one of those situations, I'm glad we gave it a shot. Wish a few more had gone his way.
December 9th, 2022 at 11:35 AM ^
I know what you're saying, but "he could have said no," is a bit of a straw man. I don't think a kicker at any level gets the authority to tell the coach, "No, thank you. I'll pass."

It's great to see Olu rake in the hardware, but I would like to see some love for Zak Zinter. Having Zinter on his right really helped Olu look good.
The rest of the OL isn't chopped liver, either.
December 9th, 2022 at 11:05 AM ^
Hopefully this keeps Zinter here for next year so he can blow up the draft in 2023 after a year of seasoning

Well deserved. Still feels like Corum was robbed for the Doak Walker because he got hurt at the end of the year and was "dinged" for playing behind a great offensive line. Robinson is a really good back but the logic I kept seeing was "he played with a freshman QB" and...McCarthy is in the same class as Ewers. Oh, and he also got to play against Big 12 defenses and the best one he faced was KSU (admittedly he did put up 200 yards against them), which would have been the 3rd or 4th-best Corum faced.

I'm OK with Bijan getting the Walker award. Would have loved, of course, to have seen Blake win, but this was a pretty close race once Corum missed the last 1.5 games.
Most AA teams have Blake and Bijan as 1st teamers.
What I saw the last two games is that we can win without Blake because JJ stepped up and The Don is a future star. Ewers can't carry the team. He stunk it up during their last two losses to Okie St and TCU.
Whatever criteria they use for close calls like this year's Doak, I don't know. But if it who is more valuable to their team when two guys are pretty even, Bijan gets the edge.
Anyway, Bijan is 13-11 these last 2 years, while Blake's team is 25-2.

Congrats to Sparty getting their Punter on the All American list. He certainly had an abundance of opportunities to showcase his skills this year...

Yeah those dang Spartans always seem to find a high calib
Hey wait a minute . . .

I'm surprised the Iowa guy didn't get more love!
Punting is winning!
