Corso - "U of M not a good job"
Just watching Gameday and Corso was absolutely killing us.
Then, at the end of the piece, says "...if Michigan was a good job, he (RichRod) wouldn't be there. That's right, Lloyd would still be there, mark my words."
Fowler tries to correct him, "Not a good job?"
Herbie, "If he (Carr) has some players coming back?"
Corso, "No, I am telling you, if it was a good job, he (RichRod) wouldn't be there, because you don't get good jobs, they are taken by people, they don't give them up."
Herbie, "This guy can win, give him time, give him some time to recruit"
Fowler, "They are fine?"
Herbie, "They are fine, give him time, he will win"

Right, guys never retire from good jobs that require a ridiculous amount of work to, you know, retire and do something else you like even more and relax. Corso wouldn't know of course, as he's only been fired as a coach.
Most Ohio State fans seem to think the same as Herbie -- we'll be back, and soon, and with Rodriguez as the coach. Of course they don't think Michigan will be beating Ohio State like they did in the 90's, but they do think we'll be good again quickly.

Before everybody gets their panties in a bunch, the title of this thread is misleading. What Corso was saying was that he believes Lloyd retired and didn't leave the next head coach much talent (Rich Rod) to work with. He believes that if this were a talented team, Lloyd wouldn't have retired. Basically, he's saying it wasn't a good job for ANY head coach to come into AT THIS TIME because he thinks that there is no talent to work with right now at Michigan. I completely disagree with him, of course, and I don't like the fact that he kind of took a backhanded shot at Lloyd in his dissertation. Face it, people. The only way Rich Rod can change all of the negativity swirling around this program is to win football games. Period.

Yeah I think Jay is right that this was what Corso meant, as usual for Corso though it didn't come out right though.

Corso just gets too damn worked up when he talks and ends up butchering the point that he's trying to make.

You guys might be right about what he was saying, but after watching and rewatching the piece on RichRod, even Herbie and Fowler are thinking that Corso is ripping on U of M. Fowler even tries to correct Corso and Corso plows over him and keeps going with his point.
I completely agree that RichRod has to win and begin to win big and remove all this negativity around the program. What is sad though is that it won't be until at least 2010 until we are winning big again. I feel that it is worth it though, if we have to go through these 2-3 seasons to be like Oklahoma and USC (10-2, 11-1 every year) I think it is worth it. I couldn't take anymore 9-3, 8-4 seasons.

be 2010 & 2011 before we are able to be 10-2, 11-1 because the QBs need 1 to 2 years in RR's system.

Of course he was "ripping" on Michigan, but, you took the "not a good job" quote out of the context in which Corso was saying it. You make it seem as though he believes Michigan is a bad job for any head coach under any circumstance at any time. That is NOT what he said. He is saying that its not a good job for a head coach RIGHT NOW because he believes that there is no talent for ANY head coach to work with. He believes that is a reason why Lloyd decided to retire, because he knew that UM didn't have enough talent to win. He's wrong, of course, but, he does deserve to have is words put into the proper context in which he said them, just like Rich Rod deserves to have his "get a life" quote to be put in its proper context, right?

Lloyd's theme during his exit was that he was privileged to have the best job in the country or something like that. Corso is at best a comedy act for ESPN.
Damn is it quiet--maybe that's okay but it's kinda creeping me out.
I want to see alot of Feagin, Brown, and Minor today not in that particular order--NOt too worried about the Defense showing up. We need great special teams to stay in the game and complete mission impossible.
Go Blue, win one for seniors and the victors!

As much as I want to give Lee Corso the benefit of the doubt because he is a smart football guy. BUT this comment was ASSININE!!! It wasn't Holtz(hitler) stupid, but Corso should know better than to ever say the Michigan job isn't a top job. The Michigan job is one of the top 5-6 jobs in the country regardless of the talent and the record. The last two years of recruiting have hurt the results on the field that ALL changes starting TODAY!

He's still just bitter about the '79 Homecoming Game, Wangler to Carter

Corso's always hated us, ever since he was the IU coach and went 0-8 against Bo. Ignore it.

Lee Corso got fired from Indiana.....
November 22nd, 2008 at 11:51 PM ^
Fired from a team that hasn't won a big ten championship since 1967. He did such a good job he never got another coaching job. He would have performed sexual favors for AD's in Division II schools to get a job, but he was not quite qualified to coach or provide sexual favors. Ergo he is on ESPN. Those who can't do, teach Lee. Congrats!
