Corners

Submitted by KingsWolverine on

Does anyone else but me get pissed off every time they see our corners giving receivers a 10 yard cushion?  I mean come on i saw a few times against purdue 2nd or 3rd down and 5-6 to go and morgan freakin trent gives the guy a 12 yard cushion.  What the hell??!!  He has to be the most overrated corner imo.  I dont see why they dont play bump and run or at least only give a 5 yard cushion.  Its not like they are slow and cant run w/ any receiver.  I think Donovan Warren plays great at corner, i think hes a lot better than trent.  Though he does have some stupid penalties once in a while.  Seeing him at safety, i think that he will probably end up there for good if he keeps playing well.  And i thought he did a great job there saturday.  Why would they do this, well obviously to get boo boo in at corner for next year.  The kids got talent, hes just needs a little more coaching and hes gonna be a good one.  Hes also listed behind donovan warren on the depth chart, i think he shoulda been behind trent and woolfolk behind warren.  oh well tho just wanted to see what you guys thought.

I believe he is playing 10 yds off because if he plays bump and run, he runs the chance of getting burned and we don't have good safeties to back him up. If we had good safeties, he would be able to play up on the LOS.

You want tight coverage? How many of you were bitching up a storm about all of MSU's slants? Don't you remember those guys getting PAST the bumping corner?

A play that has happened at least 4 times this year: WR beats Donavan Warren's bump and run coverage, runs a slant towards the middle, and break's Warren's tackle. Stevie Brown, crashing down to make the play, also misses the tackle flying by.

So yeah, more tight coverage please.

I just think it's disingenuous to bitch up a storm when our DB's allow a Golden Tate or Blair White slant to go for 75 yards, and then, the very next week, complain that they're not playing as aggressive. MSU ate us alive on those slant plays because our "aggressive" coverage couldn't stay with them.

are having a rough year, but I feel, without seeing the tape, that its our linebackers getting burned on those slants more than our corners. I think Warren/Cissoko and Trent should play tighter too.
