Cooper to Iowa per Scout?
Scout is reporting Cooper to Iowa. LOI not in according to them.

DeMatha presser with Kouandjio isn't until noon so they wouldn't sign until then anyway.
EDIT: Iowa has his LOI.

One guy after another thrown off the team, guys getting busted for dope, a bunch of kids end up in the hospital because of clueless S&C coaches, and parents still let their kids go there.
There's no figuring people.

Ahhh the power of persuasion! Being a good salesman you can sell most anything to people. Not saying that it is right, but it happens all the time. I have met many people who are a bit low on common sense, that can help.

A liberal application of snake oil often does the trick.

They dont have local media out on a witch hunt or a divided fan base that is very loud
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:15 AM ^
^^^This pretty much sums up my confusion on kids still committing to Iowa.

Thats nonsense. The Iowa program is not in trouble. But what IS nonsense, to me at least, is why a recruit would pick Iowa over Michigan. Granted, I am biased because I went to Michigan, but unless one loves corn and/or black uniforms, then the Michigan program and academics are superior in nearly every way.

It just shows how Darian and his momma are dumb fucks.

Your dumb

I'll semi defend this. Given all that's happened at Iowa I don't know how any smart person chooses to go there/let there kid go there when they have very palatable alternatives.

... I was wondering if Ferentz would survive the 13 players being hospitalized, unauthorized medical records access and a few of the players *maybe* suffering permanent kidney damage.
But, hey, I guess this is the sort of excessive practice that the NCAA apparently doesn't care about!?!
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:30 AM ^
Or Michael Rosenberg. He's evidently sniffed Kirk Ferentz's jock, concluded that it smells like roses, and probably gave him a reach-around for good measure.

I can't stand that damn LiveBlog. People, rankings and stars aren't everything! Look at ND. Top classes EVER year. What has that led to? Oh, GARBAGE seasons!? Look at Tennessee. Look at all the 4-5 stars they pull in. How many wins have they averaged lately? Look at Georgia and all their 4-5 stars. They've been garbage since Stafford left. Stop putting so much stock into stars/rankings.
Sucks to lose Cooper (If it's true) but it's not the end of the world. I'd rather have good coaches than top recruiting classes everyday of the week.
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:31 AM ^
I hate posts like this a lot.
Ranking and stars aren't everything but they sure mean quite a bit. Saying you'd rather have good coaches instead of top recruiting classes is stupid because they aren't mutually exclusive.
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:37 AM ^
No. It was not a stupid post. How many top classes did RRod pull in? How successful was he? Mark Ingram wasn't highly rated. David Harris wasn't highly rated. Clay Matthews wasn't highly rated. Donovan Warren was highly rated and never lived up to the hype. Teams like Wisconsin, Boise State, Iowa, and TCU never get those flashy classes but they seem to do fine.
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:42 AM ^
I agree with you to a certain extent, but can you name a team that has played for a national or BCS conference title that struggled to make the top 20 in recruiting class ranks?
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:48 AM ^
Wisconsin, Michigan State and Ohio State all won a share of the Big 10 title. They all finished 25 or lower last year in the rivals top 25 rankings.
February 2nd, 2011 at 12:08 PM ^
Conveniently ignoring the fact that OSU finished in the top 20 in previous years and pretending that any of those teams were that good this year.
lol
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:43 AM ^
HEY GUYS LOOK AT ME POINTING OUT OUTLIERS, THEREFORE RECRUITING RANKINGS DON'T MEAN MUCH
Also Ingram was a 4 star
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:37 AM ^
then please tell me what does????
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:41 AM ^
When did I say they mean nothing? I said they aren't everything. People put way too much stock into stars.
February 2nd, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
Cooper seemed like a smart kid, so I would imagine Iowa having two defensive linemen likely to be drafted in the first round in 2011 probably had something to do with his commitment.
While I am impressed with Hoke's rounding out of this recruiting class, I am a little disappointed that he and Mattison, in spite of their background, have had so much trouble getting a DT in here.
Are we destined to have Greg Mattison repeat "I coached Ray Lewis" until Michigan is forced by its personnel to run a 2-7-2?
February 2nd, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
While difficult to assess Cooper's intelligence through the nominal information available, I do trust the coaches discernment in all areas regarding recruiting. Therefore, to assert as Brad does that he "is a little disappointed" Hoke & Mattison haven't brought in a DT presupposes knowledge of DT's which were as of three weeks ago:
1) Open to adding UM to their list of possible schools
2) Open to reversing their verbal commitment of another school (Cooper)
3) Would be academically qualified (No more Demar Dorsey's, thank you)
4) Would be athletically gifted enough to play at Michigan
Let's face it, there weren't many prospects out there that would meet my minimal criteria. Unless one can offer other prospects, it is silly to say one is disappointed in the coaches effort thus far in trying to land a DT. Before getting negative, let's give Hoke a full year to recruit before asserting alleged deficiencies.
