College Football Thursday Night Open Thread
#18 East Carolina beating Connecticut 31-21 late in the 4th Q on ESPNU.
Miami leads Virginia Tech 30-0 in the 4Q on ESPN. Virginia Tech and OC Scott Loeffler are trying to lay waste to any hope Ohio State has of making the College Football Playoff.

East Carolina is quite asleep. UConn fell 12-3 to a pretty poor Tulane team recently. Beamer has just about lost it at VT and it's really showing up now.

Still a lot of season left, but hypothetically, if Ohio State were to make the Playoffs, it would quite possibly be the worst loss by a team to play for the National Championship. The only one close to that level that I can remember is FSU losing at NC State in 1998.

As others have said, that loss by OSU looks worse and worse each week. I think since it was the second game of the year OSU's oline and Barrett were still getting their feet underneath them. It's amazing to see how far that offense has come, while at the same time extremely frustrating to watch UM's offense struggle week after week.

Muschamp OC, Sumlin DC, keep Funk and Jackson for ever and ever.

Well, Virginia Tech and their 70 yards of offense in this game basically eqautes to Bob Uecker's old statement when the Brewers were well behind in a game - "Two grand slams and we're back in it!" I wonder where Frank Beamer is at right now.

What do you all think of Al Golden? Considering Miami's out of whack stadium accessibility and fall from grace, seems like he's doing alright...
And he has a freshman QB this year...

Well considering he brought Temple from the dregs... and Franklin was just hired at PSU...
Sure seems like he can recruit.

He's now 2 games above .500 for his career, his recruiting is fine but given Miami's location that shouldn't be surprising, and his teams have looked absolutely lost at times against the good teams on their schedule.
Feels like a lateral move, at best.

Al Golden was given the unenviable task of trying to reduce the power of the Dade/Broward clique that has undermined authority of the coaches and been quite unfrlendly to many out of town players for a long time.
He is also being asked to run a clean program, which has been a rarity at YTM. He is 27-18 and 5-3 at YTM right now and has improved every year until this one, which is in question. They play UNC, FSU, UVA and Pitt. This looks like 8-4 again to me. I think Golden is a decent coach.
