College Football Nerds - Georgia vs Michigan Playoff Preview

Submitted by Cmknepfl on December 27th, 2021 at 5:30 PM

College football nerds released both playoff semifinal previews today.  They are usually pretty un biased in their analysis but I thought they were a little lower on Michigan than warranted, especially Josh:

Josh UGA 34 - UM 17

Daniel UGA 27 - UM 21

I think they look too much big picture, and don’t get into the details enough.  The multiplicity of our run game, including what I think will be 15-20 snaps for JJ will be very hard to scheme for.  Also our O line is being severely under estimated.

I look for a big play on A JJ keeper with an Arc block!!

I appreciated the mention of Ronnie Bell's sick catch against WMU before his injury but they didn't even name another WR on our team and went on for five minutes about how we have yet to overcome that loss of Bell from twelve games ago. That aside, I like their channel and will watch the Bama-Cincy one soon.

Because they only watched the Ohio State game, which is what we did . . . run H2 up the middle.

They did not watch MSU or Iowa, or pretty much any other game.

If all I watched was the Ohio State game where we barely threw a pass in the second half (because we did not have to), then I would think that Michigan is just glorified Army too.

I expect a JJ deep ball because it feels like he was featured on some deep shots early in the year but the back half of the schedule has been RPOs & short/intermediate throws

I hope to hell the coaches are rep'ing some tempo drives with JJ.  If we can't run the ball straight up, that is the "Alabama" path to victory.

The game is on the last day of December.  At that point, nobody is a freshman anymore.  Time to fully use the JJ weapon when we need it.  He is not a "freshman" any more, especially with a month to prepare for the game.

A Cincinnati win will have the bulldogs curled up in a corner sucking their thumbs wondering if they actually do suck. Georgia’s gonna be a tough out but it’s not an impossible hill to climb. Bama isn’t unbeatable either.

Their knowledge of Georgia is very deep.  They wax eloquently about Georgia, down to bench players and injuries.

But their knowledge of Michigan is extremely superficial.  "Michigan likes to run the ball."  "Michigan's QB is not all that good."  And that's about it.

If you asked them to tell you about Anthony, Wilson, Henning, and Sainristil, they would say "Who?"

THEIR OWN MODEL is telling them that there is more to the story than they are seeing.

Yet they are quite comfortable in their superficial knowledge about half the players on the field.

I like these guys it's a fun show, and they put themselves on the line with their picks.

But they're clearly SEC homers to some extent, and it seems nigh impossible to me that it will be 34-17 Michigan, but SEC homerism isn't always wrong.

I really enjoy these guys and they usually cover Michigan in a fair and unbiased manner…  BUT they spend a half hour trying to override their model and come to the conclusion that Michigan is not going to do well in this game due to match up issues.  Let’s make them wrong about Michigan 3 games in a row.

Maybe I’m just a homer but damn, I thoroughly enjoyed Sam, Al  and Devin’s recently released Michigan Insider. In my mind, I believe I am always smarter after listening to Borges lol.

I typically like them, but an LOL at "they are no longer playing a team with nothing to lose" and that Georgia didn't really care against Bama. That's some feelings ball from the nerds.

So basically:

Can Michigan's Defense hold off Georgia's Offense long enough for the hammer of Michigan's Offense's running game eventually breaks the anvil of Georgia's Defense?

And vice versa.
