College Football Guide

Submitted by mmccrae on
I am interested in getting a college football guide and was seeking mgoadvice on which one is the best. I got the sporting news one last year and liked it but I don't know if I am missing out on something better. I searched around a little to see if this had been asked, and didn't find anything but if there is let me know and give me due punishment.

Hail to the Victors seems to be the best for in-depth Michigan preview.   For an overall College Football Guide I have always been pleased with what Sporting News puts out.  I enjoy reading what Sports Illustrated publishes, and have known Phil Steele's magazine to be pretty popular with some people.

Thanks for the quick responses

My next question is whether Phil Steele's regional guide is too much.  Is the national one comprehensive enough or are getting all the regional ones necessary?

I have the nationwide one (with the B10 cover, it has regional covers), and it's loaded with info on every team. It's pretty comprehensive, certainly stats wise.

I also have Hail to the Victors, which is awesome and has the best M specific coverage.

Phil Steele's preview mag gave me a headache.  The print is tiny.  But it's pretty accurate and, for the most part, well researched.

Here is the editors' guesses at parts of Michigan's roster

LOT Rocko Khoury

C  Michael Schofield

LDE Will Henninger

ROLB Floyd Simmons

K Jason Olesnavage

P Zoltan Mesko

I know you're not looking for U of M info, but I'd say that's telling.  As for Steele, he crams a lot of words in, but way too much of it is about stuff that happened several years ago.  Still, he's probably the best of the lot.  Picked up Yahoo, zzzz.
