College football begins TODAY!!!
August 29th, 2020 at 7:08 AM ^
Because after this off-season we'll take whatever football we can get... and who knows how much will actually get to happen this fall?
Enjoy it while you can!
(Just watch there be announcement this afternoon that game is postponed due to positive covid tests this morning... because of course there would.)

No M = No CFB
August 29th, 2020 at 11:00 AM ^
Michigan and the B1G decided to go sit at the kids table.
August 29th, 2020 at 11:35 AM ^
spineless political cunts = B1G Commissioner and presidents
August 29th, 2020 at 1:22 PM ^
Banhammer?
August 29th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
I don’t agree with his opinion but it’s an opinion. Why would that be banned?
August 29th, 2020 at 4:15 PM ^
Given the current state of the world probably because the guy has a viewpoint that the poster doesn’t agree with and bullies come in all forms nowadays.
August 30th, 2020 at 10:16 PM ^
Expressing that opinion by calling people cunts is the problem. It's not worthy of a ban, but its not exactly measured, reasonable conversation.
August 29th, 2020 at 1:52 PM ^
Take a Xanax or something!
August 29th, 2020 at 4:18 PM ^
The guy posted a GIF of a girl crushing a soda can, I think there’s a possibility He maybe joking a bit.
August 29th, 2020 at 4:33 PM ^
What about trying to avoid spreading a virus that has already killed close to 200,000 people makes you think this would be worth it? You come off like an ill-informed, selfish baby.
August 29th, 2020 at 7:26 PM ^
What needs to be said that hasn’t already been said???
August 29th, 2020 at 6:08 PM ^
Dude make up your fucking mind. You talk out both sides of your mouth constantly.
August 29th, 2020 at 6:12 PM ^
You sound like Valente
August 30th, 2020 at 10:54 PM ^
Serious questions, I'm curious about others' viewpoint. How many excess COVID-19 infections among athletes do you expect if they play? How many do you deem an acceptable number? What about deaths?
August 29th, 2020 at 7:20 AM ^
I might tune in out of curiosity, but I can't really get into college football until Michigan and the Big Ten is playing.
August 29th, 2020 at 7:25 AM ^
True, my overall interest in the season will be diminished with UM out - but the main reason I even started paying attention to the rest of CFB was because of its effect on UM ranking. Nowadays college sports are about the only ones I still care to follow... so I'll still watch.
August 29th, 2020 at 8:27 AM ^
My interest has diminished to the vanishing point. A symptom of COVID depression. The entire rhythm of things is fucked up. No fans in the stands. Stanley Cup playoffs in September. Same with the NBA. Big Ten football in February? Seven inning doubleheaders. Bars closed. Gyms closed. Movie theaters closed. Schools closed. No handshakes. No hugs. No mask no service. No fun. No shortage of insanity.
Told mgowife last night I'm quite ready to move to remote Ecuador. And, in the most disorienting thing of all, she agrees.
August 29th, 2020 at 8:34 AM ^
We're not allowed in Ecuador.
August 29th, 2020 at 10:10 AM ^
To be fair... which places were you already banned from going before the pandemic hit? That should be an interesting list.
August 29th, 2020 at 5:02 PM ^
Is Bolivia nice at this time of the year?
August 29th, 2020 at 8:36 AM ^
Sorry to add to your misery, but we have friends who are missionaries in Ecuador and they are being hit hard by the virus right now. They have been shut in for months.
August 29th, 2020 at 9:42 AM ^
No Ecuador.
August 29th, 2020 at 10:04 AM ^
Commenting on moving to Ecuador: if you think the lockdowns and restrictions were harsh in the our USA, they were and are much more worse elsewhere. The Caribbean Islands not only shut down tourism, the locals could only only go to the grocery store twice a week (St Maarten, St Kitts and Nevis). Things are not as restrictive down there nowadays as they were from April into June. Tourism is limited and entertainment places are ordered to close at 10 PM. In spite of these precautions, yep, COVID cases are rising down there again (and the governments down there are freaking out). Even Australia and New Zealand have some harsh restrictions in place.
August 29th, 2020 at 10:20 AM ^
Well, bye.
August 29th, 2020 at 10:47 AM ^
Not to worry. I won't let the door hit me on the ass on the way out.
August 29th, 2020 at 1:19 PM ^
Why not go to Sweden where you can do most of those things and masks arent even required?
Yet somehow. They've managed to control the spread of the virus. And may even be better prepared for potential future spread
Man, it's almost like the "trust the science" people have no f'n clue what they are doing
August 29th, 2020 at 1:41 PM ^
We're not allowed in Sweden right now. Our 'Murican passport is good for something like 12 countries at present. And some would say those are the "shithole countries" in the world.
August 29th, 2020 at 1:56 PM ^
Hey!
If YOU TWO don't knock it off RIGHT NOW, I'm turning this gameday around and we're going home! No football for anyone!
GOT IT!?!
....
....
Alright then.
August 29th, 2020 at 3:18 PM ^
Sweden also has socialized medicine, which is at least potentially important.
It does not appear that Sweden has achieved herd immunity (which was the goal of the minimal restrictions)--it's probably too soon to tell.

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/uk-abandoned-herd-immunity-while-sweden-embraced-it-how-possible-is-it-to-achieve-herd-immunity-without-a-vaccine-2020-08-26
In the meantime, Sweden has by far the highest number of deaths per capita among the Nordic countries--576 deaths per million vs 108 for Denmark, 49 for Norway, and 60 for Finland.
The US has 563 deaths per million.

It's about controlling the rate of spread (R0) and sweden is currently doing much better than we are despite having no mask mandate. Sweden may have achieved some level of herd immunity. Some experts theorize herd immunity may be achieved at a rate of between 10-20%. If so, they would be better prepared against potential future outbreaks. The point is, it's all speculative, no one knows for sure. But everyone's acting like they have all the answers. They need to justify their desire to control the lives of people around them. People are scared of their own mortality and rather accepting it, they think they can control it by influencing the behaviors of others. Sorry, were all going to die. Please let us live our lives while we are still here. Thanks
August 29th, 2020 at 5:19 PM ^
When it comes to controlling the spread of highly infectious disease with no vaccine and mostly ineffective therapies, I'd like to think as a species we have some responsibility for each other.
August 29th, 2020 at 6:10 PM ^
What experts? The my pillow guy?
You need like 80-90% for herd immunity. That's why we see measles outbreaks in communities with low vaccination rates.
Also, we have never, not once in all of human history, achieved herd immunity without a vaccine. Ever.
August 30th, 2020 at 12:30 PM ^
60-80% is thought to be the "magic" number for covid, but your point remains.
August 29th, 2020 at 6:51 PM ^
I mentioned that 20% article the other day and no one believed it either. Good luck with that.
I don't pretend to understand the math, but they seemed to believe in it themselves. And isn't like they were some Liberty University guys either.
August 29th, 2020 at 7:53 AM ^
Is Game Day being broadcast adhering to Social Distancing like CNBC does?
Davis, Herbstreit, and Howard broadcasting from their living rooms while Corso is broadcasting from the facility's bingo room?

August 29th, 2020 at 7:54 AM ^
Let's go Peay! Clever.
August 29th, 2020 at 8:02 AM ^
Hmmm... Having trouble getting revved up for this game. Are they using cardboard cutouts in the stands?
August 29th, 2020 at 8:06 AM ^
Stadium capacity 25,000 and attendance will be capped at 25% (~6000)... so there will be some crowd at least.
Probably like watching the Bahamas Bowl or similar.
August 29th, 2020 at 8:36 AM ^
Yep, the sad part is I'm going to watch.
August 29th, 2020 at 8:37 AM ^
Yesssss!
I’m so pumped! I’m curious what the viewer count will be.
August 29th, 2020 at 8:57 AM ^
My guess is low for a prime time game but very high compared to anything those teams are used to.
August 29th, 2020 at 8:48 AM ^
Yes! Can’t wait! I watched part of both high school games on ESPN last night and it was the most normal looking sports I’ve seen since March.
August 29th, 2020 at 8:51 AM ^
Am I the only who will watch 0 college football until Michigan plays again?
feel like I’d just get more depressed
August 29th, 2020 at 10:29 AM ^
I guess I'm just hating on the little guy. But not even the pandemic is enough to give me any interest in watching this game. Sorry Austin Peay and Central Arkansas fans.
August 29th, 2020 at 11:31 AM ^
Get a hold of yourself man.
August 29th, 2020 at 9:19 AM ^
I'll watch it.
August 29th, 2020 at 9:21 AM ^
I'll be tuning in. Watched the HS games last night as well. I wish Michigan were playing, but not going to let that ruin my enjoyment of watching football (however much there is) this fall.
August 29th, 2020 at 9:50 AM ^
Sure beats the interminable dross of reruns and nonstop politics that floods our screens now anyway. Watch it now and enjoy it while you can.
If I was a fan of, coached for or played for these schools I’d be absolutely pumped right now. You’re the only game in town and you’re in prime time. This country is starved for football right now. This is a huge recruiting and brand building opportunity for them.
August 29th, 2020 at 10:14 AM ^
I have to believe that this dog meat game will draw more viewers than either of the Republican or Democratic National Conventions, e.g. I'll watch it while I couldn't bear watch either of those political sideshows over who is more deserving of a place at the public trough.
