Chris Weber HOF Speech
Obviously, all eyes were on the Maize Out in the Big House yesterday but there was other Michigan happenings in the sports world as well. Chris Webber was inducted into the Naismith Hall of Fame last night. Just watched his speech and it is one of the best HOF induction speeches I've seen in a while.
Congrats to CWebb! Hang the banners!

I’ll be getting neg-bombed into next week, but I don’t think Webber had a HOF pro career.

Correct. Basketball HoF takes into account college, coaching, HS, whatever.

I think I he had the same stats playing for the Lakers or Celtics, he would have been in years ago. Plus, its not just about the NBA. You can't tell the story of basketball without CWebb

no doubt, he belongs in the hall given his total hoops resume. spot on that you cant discuss the sports evolution without mentioning webb.
averaged 20/10 and 4-5 assists over 12-15 year career or whatever. not quite the greatest PF ever some envisioned when he left michigan but still damn strong. many felt he couldve done a little more but thats irrelevant. hes not bird, duncan, barkley or malone - well, few are.
lived up to hype as one of biggest prospects ever, changed the game and culture in college, put up numbers for decade plus, then hung around with tnt. hes not 1 of the 50-100 best ever but thats not the halls mission

I think if the officiating was not lopsided towards the Lakers in 2002(?) when they had the 25 point or so comeback in the 4th quarter, Webber would have been in the hall of fame years ago

No negs here - but I also disagree. While you can make a coherent (albeit not convincing IMO) that he's merely in the Hall of Very Good and his reputation is bolstered after the fact by his association with the Fab Five, he was still one of the best players of his era and that's all you can ask for. Moreover, I suspect you wouldn't have to look too far to find HoFame entrants with slightly worse resumés or far worse off-court missteps.

"...his reputation is bolstered after the fact by his association with the Fab Five..."
He wasn't just associated with the Fab Five - he LEAD the Fab Five! I mean, it was Chris Webber and four other really good players. For all the credit that Rose and Howard also received (and rightly so), opponents focused on Webber. Stop Webber, and you have a fighting chance. Don't stop him, it's over before it even started.
There was a pretty clear pecking order to the Fab Five - Webber, Rose, Howard, King, and Jackson. In that order... They were all really good, and played perfectly together - strengths and weaknesses combined beautifully. But Webber led that group, and he earned his way into the Hall.
Congrats, CWebb!! Now work on getting those banners hung!

First, it's not the NBA HOF. Second, this kind of just reveals you as a casual. He absolutely had a HOF career for basketball. This isn't the NFL where there's 10 times as many players and making the hall is for a couple guys.

The bowler?

Webber was a top 3-4 PF during a golden age of PFs - Malone, Rasheed, Duncan, Dirk, KG, Gasol etc.
Def a HOFer. Had he not been injured during the waning years he was in Sacramento, he’s being discussed as a top 5-10 player at his position all-time.
Webber in the modern NBA would be a nightmare for teams. He was 20 years ahead of where the game was going.

Congrats to CWebb.
Happy for the guy

Its crazy to think of power CWebb from high school to his two years with us to finesse CWEBB later in the NBA. Soft touch, good passer, good hands. Crazy how in my mind those are almost two different players.

Great speech for sure. I love hearing about his deep love of Michigan. The Fab 5 will never be repeated as they meant so much more than just basketball. It was fun to watch. My favorite C-Webb days though were when he was with the Kings. His game and that team were absolutely phenomenal to watch. Some of the most exciting basketball ever played in the NBA. Glad to see him being recognized.

Happy for him and that was a good speech.

I have no respect for this bum.
I don't think that his pro career was hall of fame worthy. He was an all star, but not a hall of fame. Shawn Kemp was more dominant than Chris Webber.
Above all else, this scum bag committed perjury to a federal grand jury. Why would you believe a single word this fool ever says? He has an inflated sense of ego and believes that he can smile and lie his way out of anything. In reality, he is not smart and just tries to get by on image. He is deplorable.

Chris was the best HS player his Sophomore year. I will never forget my brother calling after watching the Fab Five on ESPN documentary and him saying was that me Chris was dunking on. I said yes he made you look stupid.
