CFP (Fiesta and Peach Bowls) ticket advice

Submitted by Flexie94 on November 29th, 2022 at 9:55 PM

I know there are other threads for BIG Championship and National Championship tickets, so the one is about the semifinal games (Peach and Fiesta Bowls). I don't have enough Priority Points to get tickets through the Athletic Department, so the secondary market it is.

Any thoughts on WHEN and WHERE to get them?

Last year, I got Orange Bowl tickets in the hour after the selection show. I saw prices rise in that hour before my eyes. Unfortunately, I definitely bought them near the top of the market as prices did stabilize and decline a bit in the following weeks. There was the dynamic of two large and passionate fan bases who had not been there before, one of which was driving distance to Miami. I don't wee well see that same environment this year.

Another experience in a different sport (buying Boston Frozen Four Finals tickets before the semifinals, then selling them at a loss after they lost to Denver) makes me reluctant to get tickets before the selection show (though I might get tickets after the Saturday games if it seems obvious where we'll be playing).

Finally, any experience on where to get them on the secondary market? I got the Orange Bowl tickets through Ticketmaster. There's always Stubhub. Anywhere else worth trying? Assurances that I will get legitimate tickets outweighs saving a few bucks.

Downvoting anymore talk about where to buy tickets. There is not only a sticky but there has also been 10+ threads about tickets since Saturday afternoon.

I wish you the best of luck in finding your magical ticket

Lighten up Francis.

God forbid Michigan fans talk about…buying tickets to Michigan games.

In response to the OP I can tell you that Fiesta Bowl prices have gone up over the last few days.  I was looking Sunday night and cheapest tickets were in the low $300’s.   Now they are in the low $400’s including the fees. I almost pulled the trigger on a good pair on Seatgeek, which is the official ticket partner to the Fiesta Bowl fwiw.

i hesitated because I wasn’t sure if I wanted to maybe wait to see if they make the NC game.

Have money and roll the dice and buy them now. If you wait for the Selection Show, it is probably too late if you are trying to get a below market deal on tickets. The one nice thing about Michigan's position is they are almost certainly in the playoff and will most likely be sent to the Fiesta Bowl. The only way the Peach Bowl is in play is if Georgia loses the SEC Championship, but even then there is a chance Michigan gets sent to the Fiesta Bowl.

That avatar... Is close to where I was sitting in Pasadena. It's a Small World afterall. Definitely a little higher & to the left just slightly. I had row 2, so 28. Burned into my memory like Saturday

Which reminds me... What happened with CW after the formalities on BNK. Didn't see him after that, but I bet he was glowing. If only there were about 100k recording devices, we might be able to see it.

Tickets in advance for semis is not a great dynamic. Just show up outside the stadium with a couple hundred in cash, per ticket, and you'll be fine. You should be able to find decent tickets (cash) for $200/apiece.

My only thought is that:

- UGA and UM are almost certainly in and most likely in as #1/#2

- the #1 seed gets to pick where they play

- having UGA play in ATL and UM play in Arizona is more likely to get more fans going to the games than the opposite

- the committee will likely seed UGA as #1; especially after last night (the only thing I see changing this is UM beating Purdue and UGA losing to LSU)

- so……I’d focus on Arizona and do it now vs waiting for the selections show.  If it ends up with UM in Atlanta then you can benefit from someone else partaking of the buying surge that you participated in last time and sell your Arizona tickets.

Yes, if you really want to go, buy Fiesta Bowl tickets today, when they are $500 for lower bowl or $300 for nose bleeds.  Georgia will get to pick location and they will pick Atlanta, so Michigan will end up in Arizona.  If something strange happens you can always resell, but buy them soon before they become $1500 per.

I'll give you some advice on plane tickets that a Georgia fan gave us as the plane tickets were more than the game tickets last year.  Buy plane tickets to both semifinals before the matchups are announced and get refundable fares.  Then when your game is announced, cancel the other one.  I saw plane tickets skyrocket the sunday the matchups were announced last year.

This year you might be able to get away with just buying 1 semifinal, assuming we stay in the #2-#3 seed and Georgia will pick the peach bowl as a "home game".

I asked this in another thread, but just to confirm--the higher seeded team is the "home" team, correct? (Just because I'd rather be on our side of the stadium, all things being equal)

Ok, so ticket advice I think I can help with that as I watched the ticket market for the CFP games daily last year.

You are correct, right after the selection show, the prices went insane. But that was for the UGA vs UM game. Cheap seats were $800. Meanwhile the Bama vs Cinci game was 1/4 of that price.

This remained true where Bamas game was always a much cheaper price point. Last year I waited 2 weeks before buying my tickets around ~$700 a piece. Those same tickets were $400 a week later. And then $300 a piece a few days after that. I think they started around $1100 each for the seats I bought. So that was a drop of 75%.

No game ever truly sells out in the scalper age and the closer the game gets, a lot of people think prices increase, when in almost all instances they drop. Last minute changes for ticket buyers or scalpers fearing not selling the tickets.

I think prices will be much cheaper from the get go. The game is on Dec 31st, me personally I am waiting for the 26th of December this year to purchase unless the prices are where I think they will be a good deal.

What I highly recommend is prebooking hotel and a car rental now. Hotels.com has a book now pay later option, just need a card on file and as long as you cancel 48 hours ahead of time nothing gets charged. Enterprise also lets you book a car without a card on file.

I have a hotel and rental car booked for Atlanta and PHX. Keep in mind with Arizona, if you are willing to drive, you can fly to Tuscon which is 90 min south and one of the best drives you will ever make through Red Rock. Me personally I am flying to Flagstaff which is a few hours north, going to the gran canyon Friday and driving south for the game and leaving out of Phoneix.

I will say flights are extremely expensive to Arizona vs ATL from Detroit and a lot of the flight times are horrible

Thanks for all the comments. I went ahead and got tickets from SeatGeek yesterday after seeing inventory drop over a few hours and presuming I would be able to recuperate my costs if I resell right after the selection show if they end up in Atlanta. Only issue is that it isn't clear how to resell them right now (tickets are "confirmed" but not "delivered"). I have an email into SeatGeek with that question now.

Well, well, well. Seatgeek is now telling me that sales are "final" and cannot be sold or transferred on their platform, but this contradicts many statements on their platform that provide instructions on how to do so. And still no barcodes. We'll see how they respond to by response.
