CFB: Week 12 - what are you looking for - which games are of interest

Submitted by Amazinblu on November 13th, 2023 at 10:09 AM

Week Twelve, the penultimate weekend (3) of the college football conference season is here.  There are three (3) games involving Top 25 ranked opponents.

Big Noon Kickoff will be at the Michigan v Maryland game in College Park, while Game Day will be in Harrisonburg, Virginia where James Madison hosts Appalachian State.

The games that are of interest to me with the team’s AP ranking noted in parentheses follow.  The remaining B1G games as well as a few SEC matchups this week are:

Saturday:

  • Michigan (2) at Maryland (NR) – noon: Go Blue! (on Fox)
  • Georgia (1) at Tennessee (21) – 3:30 pm: not quite the intrigue that was expected prior to the season’s start
  • Washington (5) at Oregon State (10) – 7:30 pm
  • Utah (16) at Arizona (19) – TBA

Other B1G games:

  • Rutgers (NR) at Penn State (10) – noon, FS1
  • Michigan State (NR) at Indiana (NR) – noon, BTN.  Do you understand the ramifications of this game?  One team will finish in the cellar of the B1G East Division – the other – won’t.
  • Purdue (NR) at Northwestern (NR) – noon, BTN
  • Illinois (NR) at Iowa (26) – 3:30 pm, FS1
  • Minnesota (NR) at Ohio State (3) – 4:00 pm, BTN
  • Nebraska (NR) at Wisconsin (NR) – 7:30 pm, TBA

A few notable SEC games - the gauntlet of their schedule:

  • Chattanooga (NR) at Alabama (9) – noon
  • UL Monroe (NR) at Ole Miss (12) – noon pm
  • Southern Miss (NR) at Mississippi State (NR) – noon
  • Abilene Christian (NR) at Texas A&M (NR) - noon
  • New Mexico State (NR) at Auburn (NR) – 4:00 pm
  • Florida International (NR) at Arkansas (NR) – 7:30 pm
  • Georgia State (NR) at LSU (15) – 8:00 pm

Though Slippery Rock fell from the ranks of the unbeaten to Kutztown in the PSAC Championship, they are in the D2 Playoffs and host East Stroudsburg.  Kickoff time TBA.

Meteor Game: There’s a lot to like about Minnesota – especially, the Brown Jug.  I’ll request Columbus, Ohio as the destination for the meteor this week.

Which games are of interest to you?   What will you watch / follow - and, what are you looking for?  Where would you prefer the meteor to strike?

Go Blue!

Kind of shocked Gameday is going to JMU instead of Oregon St. Sucks for the Beavers--I know they like to try and go to a smaller school every year, but James Madison has actually hosted Gameday (this will be their third time hosting) more than Oregon St. (hosted just once). Not too often they get to have an opportunity like this in Corvallis...

Probably because 1) they've already been to the PNW for Oregon@Washington and 2) they try to do a "small" school every year and they haven't been to one yet. This is really the only remaining option (since ranked Tulane is on the road this week and next week is The Game).

Also an interesting story b/c JMU is undefeated in their second season of FBS ball, but not bowl eligible b/c of the 2 year moratorium when moving up from FCS to FBS.

I'm headed to the GT - Syracuse night game in Atlanta.

Not a prominent game by any stretch, but GT needs the win to make it to a bowl for the first time in forever, so there is a lot on the line for them.  Should be fun.

As much as I hate Tennessee, they were playing well and I thought they might give Georgia a good game next week…but they looked like dog turd against Missouri, so oh well.

Feels like the last 4 weeks, there have been very few upsets.  The favored teams are rolling.

Even better than that, the loser has the inside track at last in the conference. Sparty closes at Ford Field vs. Penn State, so this would seal that deal.

  • Tennessee needs to lose so people stop pretending like a team that got blown out by Florida and has lost every game that matters against teams that didn't pay tens of millions of dollars for the pleasure of firing their coaches deserves to be ranked.

  • Utah because Pig Farmer

  • Comet for all Big Ten matchups except for Indiana over Sparty and Minnesota over Ohio State

I don’t want a one loss Ohio State in the playoff again.

I don’t want the SEC getting multiple teams.

I think the only way this happens is Michigan, Washington, Florida State each end their seasons undefeated. Then either undefeated Georgia, or one loss Alabama represents the SEC. I don’t think they would keep one loss Georgia over one of the three undefeated conference champions.

So I’m rooting for UW and FSU through Dec. 2

Not much outside our game at Maryland and if Jim gets to return to the sideline.

MN @ OSU, not much guessing who will win.

IL @ IA, the Illini have been playing better and could upset the Hawkeyes, or make it very close at Kinnick.

Maybe NE gets its 6th win vs the slumping Badgers.

GA @ TN might be an occasional check in.
