CFB Risk Day 36 - Aruba, Jamaica, Oooo I want to take ya (NEED MORE POWER)
CliffsNotes Instructions
(1) If you want an order aligned with Michigan’s current battle plan before you attack/defend, go to Michigan Risk Central Command. You'll get a few options to choose from.
(2) If you insist on doing your own thing, head over to CFB Risk and attack any of the OSU (gray) or A&M (dark red) territories. In particular, consider sampling some Cajun Cuisine. Also, ignore Mt. Pleasant please. There's a place in place for North Mitten.
Going to Warmer Places
There's a reason the Beach Boys made the song "Kokomo." The Caribbean is almost always warm and lovely (save for hurricane season), which makes it a great place to take refuge during the winter. Just prime vacation real estate.
Unfortunately, the Buckeyes have been gifted the Caribbean region by TAMU and GT, who control the entry points -- of which there are just four (Mexico, New Orleans, Miami, and Annapolis).
Fortunately, we're threatening some of those entry points. As we tear through TAMU's stronghold, we're creeping closer to N'awlins. As we poke around Florida we kept closer to Miami. Most importantly, we TOOK Annapolis last night, giving us direct access to Puerto Rico.
OH! And almost forgot......we're friggin BACK in Texas! Great job PM_ME_JENNYS_NUMBER!
So if we can break into the Caribbean while continuing to slice up Texas and maintain our foothold in Canada.....hoo boy things will get fun in a big hurry.
To do this, though, we need everybody to get involved. Participation fell off a bit last night, and we need to keep our player count as high as possible. I think we can hit 1,400 by the end of the game. Please prove me right by helping us set sail :)

How many more days of this?
March 13 is the last day.
8, I believe.
Updated recruiting poster for those who want to help recruit. We really need a boost today. All else equal, for each player added, A&M and OSU gain 50% more than us due to the current region bonuses.
Don't look now but Iowa State is 2 territories away from a region bonus. I knew we should have hired Campbell.
Let's channel our Little Giants energy and run an "Annexation of Puerto Rico".
Feeling like Donovan Edwards today. In other words, the MVP of Columbus, OH.
I get that risk is a game of chance, but I am a little curious how our clear user count advantage has never quite produced a string of good roll days for us resulting in lots of regional holdings and even more numeric dominance. Is there an easy explanation other than everyone is out to get us? (I got my instruction and I put in my pick as I will 8 more times, just wondering how we are not dominating this game?)
The battle mechanics are a lot different than in Risk, helping the smaller team out more. But they're also pretty mathy; partly because we committed ourselves to doing a bit more of what the math directs, we've more than doubled our territory over the past 7 rolls.
There is diminishing returns on number of stars allocated to a territory when using a random number generator. Simple example: If each side has 10 stars allocated to a specific territory, one team in Attack and one team in Defense (forgetting any defensive or regional bonuses). Each team would have a 10 out of 20 or 50% chance of winning that roll. Now let's say the attacking team really wants the territory so they instead allocate 20 stars to winning it. They have now doubled their allotment on that territory to try to win it. However, their chance of winning went from 10 out of 20, to 20 out of 30 or 66.67%. So 100% increase in the starts improved the odds by 17%. When you factor that in along with Defensive and Region Bonuses and we're the biggest team (so everyone is fighting us), the results are less than what one would expect.
There is randomness built into the online game, more than you would see on the board game. As a result of this, the chances of holding all the territories to control a region are actually quite small. Regional control is the best strategy to multiply forces if you have a small team.
However, if you have a large team (and ours is the largest by far), the math says you are better off trying to create as many events as possible, and prevent smaller teams from getting region bonuses. You should end up with about the same percentage of territories as you have stars in the game.
This is why it is so important to defend Annapolis and attack Puerto Rico--it will break OSU's only region and set them back about a third in power. It's what the team has been focusing on with TAMU, who have gone from 5 to 1 region bonus in less than a week. Now their small team has to defend UM in 4X the number of places, and the math says it should not go well.
Gonna get me some crawfish and gumbo. Bam!
Boy, looking at that map, it sure looks like A&M is steam rolling everyone. And OSU even looks stronger than us.
Here's the summary standings from the recruiting poster. A&M had 5 regions not too long ago and we've reduced them to 1. Things are going to start to roll for Michigan as long as people keep playing.
TAMU and OSU have basically been playing together against UM. This is why recruiting for the final push is so important--we really need as many players as they have together.
It seriously takes little time to move from a spectator to a warrior. Every. Player. Counts.
I'm actually rooting for Michigan to win this and enjoy the updates, but CFB Risk is in the same world as Crypto and NFTs to me: Nonesense that I ain't got time for.
I hope we win.
I'm not far from ya, WQ. I echo your sentiments. Go Blue!
You guys need to leave your dorms more often. It only takes 30 seconds to play. C'mon over to the South Quad snack bar and enter your CFB Risk move while you wait for your soda and fries.
100% agree… knew nothing about it but wanted to support… with the orders web page… all you do is simply choose one of two or three options, back out, go to the map and select the region you were assigned… do it consecutive days to boost your stars. It takes max 30 seconds a day. You want to watch Ohio have a chance? That in itself is irrational. Join the fight… destroy Columbus… and the Caribbean!!!
