Michigan legend. Hard to overstate what she has done for the program and for the athletic program at Michigan as a whole.

Most important person in UM’s women’s athletics. One of the greatest coaches in the history of the school regardless of sport.
She won a ton and did so with class.
Build a statue. She deserves it.

I think there's one in front of Schembechler Hall that could be repurposed...

Forever Go Blue.

Does this explain some of the recent transfers out?
August 24th, 2022 at 2:14 PM ^
Maybe. But who cares? Hutch is the one and only. In the conversation for greatest athletic coach in UM history.

Certainly explains all the transfers

I believe it was the other way around. I remember being at a coaching clinic where she spoke and somebody asked her about the transfer portal. Her response was the she wished that "she" could put some girls in the portal.:) It's a different age and you could almost tell that while she loved the girls she coached, she was possibly tiring of girls looking for the easy way out to more playing time.

Hutch was the reason most came to Michigan. Maybe when things didn't go their way or soon enough ( and with easy opportunities to transfer) that is when some decided to leave.

The Covid exception and the new transfer rules explain a lot - students often move on to graduate school somewhere else. The portal has given as much as it has taken.
The one unexpected transfer was Annabelle Widra, who was a huge get for the program, but didn't seem to settle in well. She's from Alabama and returned to the deep south after her freshman year. Softball and baseball will always struggle with recruiting, because the season is simply too early in the year in the north - nothing can be done about that.
She probably just wants to enjoy retirement, and knows exactly what the program has in Bonnie Tholl. Tholl undoubtedly would have gone on to lead a program somewhere else long ago if she wasn't training specifically for this role. This will be a relatively seamless transition.

Amazing competitor.
Amazing coach.
Amazing leader.
Amazing accomplishments.
I started following Michigan softball during their National Championship run in 2005. I've followed the team every season since. Watching a coach/team dominate the way they did for so long is something to appreciate while it is happening.
For anyone who has enjoyed turning on the B1G Network to watch a game, thank Coach Hutch. Michigan & Coach Hutch made softball a thing in the B1G. Without her, it would still be primarily a Pac12 & Big12 sport.

Bonnie Tholl named replacement

Closest thing to Bo we had on campus.
She will be sorely missed.

I hope not.
Considering Bo knew, I hope Hutch conducted herself better than Bo outside of what the public sees day in and day out.

being a comp to Bo isnt such a good thing anymore

Undeniably the greatest coach in UM history.

At very least, Coach Hutchins is on the Michigan coaching "Mount Rushmore".

The Michigan Difference. Thank you for 38 years and the only championship won by a team from the Midwest. I'm cracking a beer now (Short's Humpa Lumpa Licious) and raising a toast.

Thanks, Hutch, enjoy your retirement, and Go Blue.

Interesting to me that none of Carson, Widra or Esman have commented on the retirement on their Instagram accounts.
