on Rivals had Stonum as starting wide receiver with Matthews still. I suspect he is supposed to act like Benn, Illinois' big time receiver. Sucks to get mono but it seems premature to assume that Junior will be out for weeks like the article said. I mean, I know it can be serious, but sometimes you can bounce back quicker.

And I just feel really bad for Carlos Brown now. Horrible luck, or fragile body.

From the article it sounds like our line is getting healthier, which is nice. Dorrestein a little banged up but the rest of the guys are back. (except of course, Zirbel)

Mono can cause fatigue which in and of itself can prevent a person from exercising, practicing, working out, etc.  That would be enough to keep a player from playing for several weeks.  However, mono can also cause enlargement of the liver and spleen (hepatosplenomegaly), thus putting a player at risk for splenic injury playing football, considering it's right below the ribs and very close to the skin surface.  The liver is also at risk.  This organ injury risk is usually what causes physicians to be cautious with getting their patients back into physical contact sports (hockey, football, soccer, not baseball).
