Can someone explain the frozen scholarship situation to me?

It may be easier with basketball since there are less roster spots. We are currently at 13 scholarship players for next season. I know Smith, Livers, Brown, Davis and Brooks can all come back next year and that doesn't count. When I look at MSU's roster though, they have 12 scholarships this year and have three incoming recruits for next year. They only have one senior in Langford. Seems to me that puts them at 14 non senior related scholarships for 2021-22. This is what is confusing to me. We are over on scholarships right now in football as well, barring any further attrition and no transfer portal players that aren't seniors.

Mods you can delete. I found an article on it. They are anticipating Henry to go pro leaving them with 13. Our football situation is a little harder to figure out because of the redshirt and such but I'm sure it'll work its way down to 85.

No.  I spent time on my reply.  And there are plenty of things to discuss, like covid, politics, religion, whether we should fire the football coach, whether the helmets are painted in a matte or semi-gloss finish, and how shitty MSU's basketball team is.  You started this.  Live with it.

It's a common method to prevent impulsive overspending.  It goes something like this.  Take your scholarship and put it into a ziploc bag and fill with water.  Put in the freezer.  When you want to use your scholarship, remove from the freezer and allow to thaw.  If, by the time your scholarship completely thaws you still want to use it, go ahead.

Anna: she got a scholarship by pretending to be a champion rower.

Elsa: she won an academic honors scholarship.

Olaf: we like tall and bulky defensive tackles, correct?  Yeah yeah yeah, I know, he's a low 3* from Rhode Island recruit, so what?

That's all the characters I know from Frozen and their scholarship situation, though I'm not sure why you're asking, OP.

My fiancee at the time, now wife (no kids), once made me watch that crap...never again.  I'll stick to what I know, college football & lifting, and even those are murky.

Hans was set to go to State, but the scholarship offer was pulled when Dantonio left. It's been established that Olaf can't read, so he'll probably get the spot instead.

Kristof is on his way to Clemson, because he's basically Trevor Lawrence (if Lawrence had been raised by woodland trolls in fictional 19th-century Norway).

Marshmallow is going to osu because he's gigantic and moves fast, so of course it would be our luck he'd be from ohio.

I'm glad I'm not the only one whose addled brain read the post's title that way. Unfortunately, the Frozen 2 release combined with early-pandemic home sheltering meant I was subjected to an average of roughly 1.5 Frozens per day for most of April, so I'm way more familiar with the characters than I'd like.

The 2021 scholarship "waiver" applies to BB also, meaning seniors can come back along with the current recruiting class.  So teams can go over the limit.

Originally the NCAA was considering giving FB teams 2 years to get back to the 85 player limit.  Now they are apparently waffling on that idea, but no clear decision has been made.   That may have changed since that article was written.

The NCAA's current proposal--although it has not passed--is to exempt scholarships given in an athlete's "final year of eligibility" for 2021 in spring sports, 2021 in fall sports, and 2021/22 in winter sports.  So in basketball, this would mean anybody who is a senior this season and will be a senior again in 2021/22 thanks to the exemption will not count against the scholarship limit.

If this is passed, that would mean Michigan could bring back all 5 of their scholarship basketball seniors--Brooks, Brown, Davis, Livers, Smith.

Again, this was discussed during the November 2020 meeting of the NCAA council, but no action was taken other than a decision to discuss further.
