It's going to be a blast. Freezing, but a blast. I bought my tickets in September.
Things to do:
-Eat at the Old Fashioned at the Capitol Square. All Wisconsin food, great cheese curds, all Wisconsin micro-brews.
-Run the bar scene. There's a hell of a lot of bars in the area. Undergrad dives and nice places you would take someone for drink on a date. Undergrad highlights include the Nitty Gritty, State Street Brats, Madhatters and Wando's. Real people bars include the Old Fashioned, Genna's, City Bar, Xander's.
-I can't say I know of any other 'things' going on that weekend. If you were here in the summer/fall, go to the Saturday morning farmer's market.

I go to Madison for every Michigan sporting event I can. It is a phenomenal town.
For last month's football game, my friends and I went to the Great Dane Pub & Brewing Co. Great food. Great beer. Great atmosphere.
If you're looking for something more than a simple college bar with a lot of midwestern dishes, Wisconsin beer, sports, and pool, this is a great place to go. I would compare the demographics of the patrons to what you'd find at Conor O'Neils or Arbor Brewing Company in Ann Arbor.

To echo what our Wolverine in Madison friend said above, State Street Brats is a classic college bar and an absolute blast. (Scott Van Pelt talks about that place on the radio whenever Wisconsin is mentioned.) Also, while in Wisconsin, drink Spotted Cow and Fat Squirrel, and eat some cheese curds.

Spotted Cow. A great beer by New Glarus Brewing Company. I believe someone mentioned this before, but I felt as if it should get more attention. Drink it up.

has a ton of excellent beverages. Definitely procure and travel back to Michigan with some Black Wheat, Apple Ale, Dancing Man Wheat, WI Belgian Red and loads of Spotted Cow.

I have had an excellent time on both of my trips to Wisconsin.
I agree with those who said that you cannot go wrong in where you go. Just walk around and find somewhere that looks good. Go in and have a good time. Other than Ann arbor, Madison is the nicest town I have visited in my college tour.
The only thing I am not looking forward is getting verbally abused by badger fans. Not that it's near as bad as Columbus or east Lansing, but I guess I am just spent in that regard. It's just part of being a Michigan fan right now.
