Right now, it's Duke v. Michigan from 1989 with Keith Jackson and Dick Vitale announcing.
Later it's the 89 season.
...still silky smooth after all of these years.
EDIT: This apparently is not the 1989 NCAA tourney! My bad. I'm recording it on DVR right now, so my error would have been apparent about an hour from now.
Let's just change Glen Rice to "Sean Higgins jump shot is still silky smooth after all of these years". And Loy Vaught remains one of my top 5 favorite hoops players ever. His ability to hit the 15 foot jumper was such a weapon (same for Juwan Howard).
Glen Rice not on that team. This was season AFTER Mich won it all, lost in 2nd round to Loyola Marymount 149-115 in NCAA Tourney that season.
But Bobby Hurley's hair is beautiful, AND it's a win over Duke.
This Michigan team was talented. They really should have been better than they were.
I threw my Couzens Hall dorm room trash can all over the place during and after that game. At least we held them to under 150 points.
That game was a massive coaching fail. I remember the Michigan players bragging before the game about how they were going to run with Loyola M. They were completely unprepared to deal with Westhead's offense.
Definitely loaded (Mills,Vaught,Higgins,Riley,Rumeal,Griffin,Talley,Caleb and some I am forgetting) but underachieved. I saw this last night and found Dicky V much less over the top.He has really become a characature of himself.
I noticed that as well. In that broadcast, he was . . . normal.
One of the great wonders of the world is why at every Michigan football or basketball game from the 90s the whole crowd is wearing white?
I was there, but don't remember wearing white. And I don't remember any calls for "white out" crowd conditions. But, then again, my memory isn't so hot from those years.
I have a couple framed posters in my bedroom of games at the big house from the early 90's and that's the first thing that jumps out at you, the majority of the crowd is wearing white. As a kid, I just thought this was normal.
Student sections across the country wearing the same shirts (colors) didn't seem to become common until very late 90s. The maize rage for basketball started in 1999 but football didn't start it until 2003.
Enjoying this game. Anyone notice how players aren't abusing the charge rule like crazy?
Refs calling such a tight game. Almost every Michigan starter is in foul trouble with 10 minutes left. Man, how things have changed.
May explain it
in this game despite some awful calls. But I had blessedly forgotten about the Loyola fiasco until my curiosity led me to wonder what this team did in the tournament.
Keith Jackson calling basketball is great.
Keith Jackson in his prime could make any sport fun to watch.
that BTN was suggesting that the Michigan Basketball program was "content" to reach the Final Four. I was ready to angrily dispute that with every ounce of Maize and Blue vim and vigor I have.
Thankfully, though, I read further and realized that I can calm down and let my blood pressure subside...
Guess I could have worded that better.
Let's hope Syracuse, Louisville and Wichita State are content tonight.
I just realized I used a dirty word in it. And it's too late to edit, so please ignore the spartie word "vim", and I promise to never use it again.
NBA score. Now we're lucky to see one 100 point game every couple of years.
And that 100pter this year was against D2 Slippery Rock. This one was against the eventual two-time NCAA champion.
I always liked those shooting shirts we wore in '89: the white short-sleeved ones with the blue Block M over the heart.
Super segment on Trey Burke and the 2012-13 season.
