Braylon Cut By Jets

Submitted by CincyBlue on

Could it be over? Lets hope he finds another gig.  I would guess a team might look to sign him after week 1.  If he is on the roster week one they have to pay him a full years salary no matter what.

Maybe he'll go to the Patriots and ramp it up with Tommy B. Who would have thought that Jason Avant would have the more stable career? He is basically the inverse of Braylon. Great hands, but not a special athlete. Work ethic probably seperated them in the long run.

Yeah that one did it for me too.  In a black SUV with dark windows in Manhattan on empty streets in the middle of the night.  Total arrogance - no ther way to look at it.

Could be wrong by I thought he was somewhere on local streets, but could have been the West Side Highway.  Same difference.  I drive down there all the time and live in fear of drunks. He gets no sympathy.

I'm sure that Avant's work ethic has played an important role, but I think it's exactly what you mentioned that's been the real difference between him and Braylon: Jason has great hands, and Braylon does not. All the work ethic in the world won't do much good if you can't catch the ball reliably.

Regardless, I still hope he gets another chance and I will root for him if he does, even if it's on the godforsaken Lions.

He was great at UM, but at this point he's a mediocre pro receiver with an ego and an inability to hang onto balls.  I'm sure he'll get another shot because of his size and "name", but I'm not going to be cheering on his return to the league with much gusto.

This man just doesn't seem to care. I don't think he's played with heart since he left Michigan. He has the ability to take over the game, and you see glimpses at times, but then he just seems to go through the motions. Hopefully he finds a team that will push him before he's to old. I think having him on the Lions would be good for both Michigan and Detroit. Possibly a "Home is where the heart is" quote could be inserted here.

I don't think that is true. I recall Erik Ainge saying that BE was the hardest worker on the Jets roster and stayed after practice to help the rookies learn the play book. Strange dude, sure, but I don't think he is lazy.

Speaking of cuts, has anyone posted updates about the undrafteds and who looks to be hanging on?  I've been scanning the transaction lists, but the absence of Wolverines from the cut list doesn't necessarily mean they haven't been cut, or something.

Edwards has been far from great most of his NFL career. There have been several reasons for it, most notably the drops. But his first 6 years in the league were quite impressive, or at the very least very solid. After his rookie year in which he went 32-512-3, or 16 yards per catch, he went 61-884-6, 80-1286-16, 55-873-3, 45-680-4, 53-904-7. Those aren't great numbers, but they are a quality starter at least. Then the rest started happening. Off field distractions, leg injuries, etc. and he hasn't been the same since.

Perspective is nice, but it works both ways. He had all of the measurables to be an elite WR coming out of college and just never really reached the potential that his talent suggested (outside of his 3rd year, which was a fluke for everyone on that Browns team). It's a simple case of a big star in a bad environment and underachieving. Some players can push through a bad organization to succeed but, as we learned with Barry, losing grinds at you if you aren't used to handling it. It also probably does not help that he was a bit of a head case.

I've sometimes wondered why such a high percentage of the prima donnas/head cases in the NFL seem to be receivers. I'm sure some astute fans have thoroughly researched this. I think Braylon was great at UM but his ego got the best of him in the pros.

If someone is in the NFL for six years can he really be a busy? Don't most nfl careers flame out after about two years? The man is one of a tiny percent to rise through the ranks and make the nfl. Lets all get some perspective before declaring this Michigan Man a bust. He has been a great receiver, but not perfect.

Lions need to sign him like right now. What a better way to finish your career as the number 2 possesion type receiver in your hometown. But if they don't, you have to remember that this is the NFL team that drafted Titus Young. So not much is expected
