I hope he has a fun three years

I'd never heard of the guy, but his record actually looks pretty good. Of course, Louisiana-Layafette to Florida is a big step up in weight class.

Speculation I was hearing earlier in the week on the national syndicated shows was that Napier was a likely candidate for LSU. Looks like Florida got there first.
November 28th, 2021 at 1:40 PM ^
Interesting. For Napier, LSU might have been a safer bet given his familiarity with that state. Florida seems like more of a gamble.

I'm a UF grad (PhD) who doesn't root for its teams. But I live in FL and know lots of people who do. The number one concern with Mullin seemed to be his lack of enthusiasm for recruiting. So I am interested to hear how Napier can give UF a boost in relation to the serious hegemony of a Kirby Smart or Nick Saban. Given that Mullin probably fulfilled most of the other prerequisites (other than being a bit of a nutcake), let's just say I have my doubts.
Good time for FL to capitalize, if they can, with Miami and FSU still a good way from re-establishing Florida predominance. . .

I'm sure Google searches for "Billy Napier" are trending in Florida as they are trying to figure out who he is.

Bo who? I remember my dad saying that several times way back when. I guess Fl. fans get to do the same.
November 28th, 2021 at 1:32 PM ^
In case you're not kidding, he's been all over the "candidates for job at <Power Five school in the SE firing coach>" lists for the past couple of years.

Pretty good hire actually. I was thinking they'd go after him and they did.
November 28th, 2021 at 2:08 PM ^
This is a really good hire. He was at Clemson from 2006-10, which was the first few seasons of Dabo and likely helped set the foundation for what Clemson turned into. Was the WR coach at Alabama from 2013-17, and was recruited really well. 3 10 win seasons in a row too.

Who's this? Joker's brother?
November 28th, 2021 at 1:59 PM ^
You’re confusing him for Joker’s brother, Jackson.
November 28th, 2021 at 2:08 PM ^
UF’s AD offering him the job: “Billy … you … are our number one … guy!”
November 28th, 2021 at 2:38 PM ^
Uh oh. He don’t look happy. Looks like he’s been using brand xxxxxxxxxxxx…
November 28th, 2021 at 1:25 PM ^
Congratulations to Billy.

DELETED WRONG THREAD
November 28th, 2021 at 1:27 PM ^
So they fire a guy who was third on their all time coaches winning list for Napier?
A guy who took them to three New Years bowl games...
November 28th, 2021 at 1:45 PM ^
Who the hell is LSU going to hire?
No Aranda, No Jimbo, No Brady (NTB), now no Napier...
They might be circling back to Coach O for another year.

I'm really curious what happens to Matt Cambell. Watching how he was with players on their senior day made it look like he was leaving. I attended UCF during the Scott Frost era and you could tell based on body image he was leaving way before it was announced.
November 28th, 2021 at 3:20 PM ^
Make another run at Mel Tucker?
November 28th, 2021 at 5:44 PM ^
He just signed for 10 years. If he hadn't signed, I'd think they would throw $12M at him (foolishly).
I honestly have no idea who is even out there outside of Campbell and Fickell and both of those guys seem like AWFUL fits for LSU.
Is their an NFL guy I'm not thinking about?
Maybe they tell Jimbo? $20M/year. Joking. Kinda.
November 28th, 2021 at 1:49 PM ^
Great hire. This guy has raised the profile of Louisiana (even after their rebrand from UL-Lafayette). He's upped their recruiting as well, as they've consistently been first in their conference on Signing Day. And he has major conference experience as an assistant at Clemson, FSU, and Alabama.
November 28th, 2021 at 2:01 PM ^
Thanks. This goes some way to answering the question I posted above.
November 28th, 2021 at 2:22 PM ^
Kinda feels like LSU and USC could be left holding their dicks. Not many big name candidates left.
November 28th, 2021 at 3:22 PM ^
There's 2 assistants at Georgia that are not being mentioned until after Georgia's last game. I think it's because they don't want to hurt team chemistry by players hearing about coaches leaving.

For those who don't know who he is:

Still insane to me that they dropped Mullen so quick
