Big 12 lands very nice TV contract despite losing Oklahoma and Texas
It's $380 Million a year, up from the current $220 Million a year.
The Big 12’s ability to not only strike a new contract with the two networks, but also to generate a substantial raise in the rights fee, was considered a serious longshot last year when conference bluebloods Texas and Oklahoma said they would leave the Big 12 for the SEC.

That is a lot of money and all, but it is fourth place money for a fourth place conference.

And, not really close fourth place. They are a ways off the medal podium

Which makes it even clearer why Oklahoma and Texas would leave.

A large part of why they're not on the podium is because UT and OU left...

What will happen to the PAC-12?

$220M/10 teams = $22M/year
$380M/12 teams = $31.7M/year - nice, but less than 1/2 the B1G

$380 million a year, about the same as B1G got for their 2nd or 3rd game of the week, and you call that a very nice TV contract. Well I guess it is for their standards.

Regardless of money, still a fun league to watch for fans and should continue to be with the addition of Cincinnati and Houston.

Someone didn’t watch the snooze fest in their marquee game yesterday- they should pay me for having watched part of it

That’s actually a very cheap TV contract, relative to what the B1G and SEC are getting.
Live sporting events command a lot of money - they are a consistently reliable source of ratings - and their contracts are experiencing major inflation.

Big 12 was never going to get close to SEC/B1G numbers. They just don't have enough national brand programs, and their regional population footprint is pretty small compared to other major conferences.
That being said, they did a really good job getting these numbers, and are sitting pretty as long as they are content with being no.3. PAC-12 is in danger of losing Oregon and Washington, and ACC will eventually get poached in the 2030's.
Nobody is poaching Big12 programs for now, it's an entertaining conference with parity, and their media deal is structured so that they can get more money if they poach on PAC12 scraps.
