Best Way and Timing to Buy Hoops Tickets for 12/29 Game v. UMass

Submitted by xtramelanin on December 20th, 2019 at 12:55 PM

Mates,

I am attempting to get the whole family down to AA for the 12/29 game vs. UMass-Lowell.  I have been checking stub hub for tickets and pricing.  I don't expect to get all 9 of us in a block, but it would be good to at least be in the same section in maybe 2 or 3 groups.  I was thinking the game would be lightly attended with the students away, but others have said just the opposite.

My questions are this: Can those that might know please share some insight into the best method and timing of getting the tickets?   Any idea if the game will be lightly or heavily attended?

Thank you in advance, and Go Blue!

Buy through the school with these. All of the secondary options are going to bump things up considerably, unless you want to wait until the last 12 hours before the game and buy up 2s and 3s in the same section.

Since you can only buy 8 together from the school (I think--that was the limit in the past) I would call the ticket office and tell them your story. I know a guy who got hooked up for 10 tickets to a Big Ten game once because he was doing it for a volunteering group and they wanted to fill the place. The number is (734) 647-1268.

seth,

thank you for that heads-up.  i called immediately, but unfortunately they are sold out.   they had some 'maize rage' seats available for resale (turned in by students), but those were sold out too as of about a month ago.  bummer.

This won’t help you for your immediate need, but in the future, you could look into buying through M’s group sales. The minimum is 10 tickets, but it’s around $5 per seat cheaper than normal sales. You’d still save some money even with buying the extra seat, which you could sell/give away/use to hold a mountain of nine coats.

I have been to many of these "sold out" games.  If I were a person who would eat a lemon, I'd offer to eat a lemon if the arena were even half full.  But I'm not a lemon-eating person.  But I would bet $1 that the arena won't even be half full for this game.

I've been a season-ticket holder for about ten years.  Have attended many of the holiday cupcake games.  There shouldn't be an issue getting tickets.  Students are gone.  Many people are out of town. Not a big group of fans for the visiting team.

That being said, it has been nice to see higher than usual attendance this year.  Definitely still a lot of excitement for Coach Howard!

Basketball attendance works in a very different way depending on the day. Obviously the team is good and new head coach got people excited. Weekend games are almost always sellouts regardless of the opponents. They also tend to be the most expensive tickets but if you wait right before the game they do get cheaper. Now since you need 9 tickets I don’t know if waiting too long is a good idea. The game is already sold out so stub hub your only option. There are scalpers outside of Chrisler but it’s usually only a couple people and they don’t typically have many tickets

Last time I went, I bought my tickets(4) from stubhub as I was walking through the door.  Prices dropped considerably about an half hour before the game. You likely won’t get all in the same area but could easily get some good seats, albeit spread out, for cheap.

I'm not convinced prices will be cheaper in a week. Other people will have the same idea and want to take family to the game, and supply's already getting tight. Needing 9 tickets also makes it risky to wait.

I could be mistaken, but I thought a similar holiday game shot up to around $70/ticket to get in the door a year or two ago...hard to say on the timing.
