BBrown: Quick Update From 2015 QB Nick Johns

Submitted by Brandon Brown on

I just got off the phone with Nick Johns and he had some pretty good things to say after Coach Mallory stopped in to see him today.

Coach Mallory came in to see me today so that was good. We talked about me maybe coming up for the junior day, which I doubt I'll make just because of the distance. He just came to talk to me and wants me to get in touch with Coach Nussmeier and hopefully I'll pick up an offer. Coach Mallory said that he'll talk with Coach Nussmeier about coming down to watch me throw so that should be good. He also said that he wants me to start calling him once a week and he's going to get me Coach Nussmeier's number so I can start calling him too. Hopefully I can pick that offer up, it would be great! Michigan would definitely be one of my top schools. If I do get that offer it would definitely be a place I'd consider committing to.

Johns resides in Leesburg, Virginia but goes to school at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, DC. He currently holds an offer from Virginia but several other schools are recruiting him. Coach Loeffler, the offensive coordinator from Virginia Tech, is coming to watch him throw next week so the Hokies may soon send out an offer as well.

Coach Mallory was at Gonzaga to see Johns along with three of his teammates from the 2015 class, OL Richie Petitbon, WR Jabari Greenwood, and DB Marcus Lewis. Recruiting Gonzaga seems to be a good idea and a great start to a potential pipeline in the talent-rich DMV area.

Whenever the coaches start mentioning the plan to see a quarterback throw in person the possibility of an offer becomes a very real possibility. I'll continue to be in touch with Johns to see if and when that session is supposed to take place.

It is obvious that Michigan is desparate for attention.  By constantly showing all of your recruiting updates, Michigan is clearly putting out all information it can to cloud the death spiral the program is in that is readily apparent to everyone except those in Ann Arbor.

Brandon:

I very much appreciate your updates.  I also follow recuiting fairly closely.  When you do an update it often concerns a recuit that we don't know or are just getting to know.  Going forward, a liitle intro info or link  would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If anyone would like to view Johns in some selected action, his Hudl page is here - (LINK). I couldn't find a complete stats profile for him, but the fragments of stuff that do exist would say that he's pretty good, I would think, and the highlights definitely agree. According to his profile, there is interest in other Big Ten schools but no offers per se - Penn State, and yes, Maryland and Rutgers (I think we can include them for recruiting purposes at this point).

Agree with trying to start a pipeline to Gonzaga.

Gonzaga, De Matha, Good Counsel, and Gilman seem to gather most of the big-name talent in the Md/Va/DC megaburb.

Having more B1G exposure with the Turtle on TV all the time can only help.

not terribly flashy, but throws a good ball and can move decently.  I also like the look of Gonzaga's #84 on their team.  Tall, athletic, deceptively fast with the long strides.  Put some more meat on him and he's a Funchess clone.
