BBrown: 2015 QB Throwing Sessions

Submitted by Brandon Brown on

Coach Nussmeier is starting to fill up his calendar with in-person throwing sessions of potential 2015 QB offerees. Here's what I've been able to dig up so far.

Zach Gentry - Eldorado - Albuguergue, NM Coach Nussmeier will be in to watch him throw next week. He told me he feels like an offer is coming if he performs well.

Nick Johns - Gonzaga - Washingont, DC Johns said that no plans have been made yet but his coach is supposed to talk to Coach Nuss soon.

Kyle Kearns - Foothill - Pleasanton, CA Coach Nuss has told Kyle that he is still finalizing dates.

Brian Lewerke - Pinnacle - Phoenix, AZ Coach Nuss is supposed watch him throw next week.

Alex Malzone - Brother Rice - Bloomfield Hills, MI Coach Nuss will watch Alex throw on April 28th.

David Sills - Eastern Christian Academy - Elkton, MD Sills' high school will host a college day on May 8th and he said that Coach Nuss has told him that he plans to be there.

Travis Waller - Servite - Anaheim, CA There have been no plans made yet but Travis plans to call Coach Nuss soon.

Brandon Wimbush - St. Peter's Prep - Jersey City, NJ Wimbush and Coach Nussmeier had an extended messaging conversation tonight and set up a throwing session for Thursday, April 24th. Coach Manning will accompany Coach Nuss.

There may be some other names that will surface soon according to what the coaches have evaluated. I've been told that other schools monitor who Michigan is recruiting closely so some things are purposely kept under wraps.

seen a ton of names coming up, but no clear favorites emerging.  I'm hoping we can land a good prospect by sometime this summer.  We don't want to be left standing when the music stops.

not a name I've heard mentioned before re: Michigan's 2015 QB chase.  But plainly not for lack of talent - kid has offers from Alabama, Texas, Tennessee and Ok. St. amongst others.  I wonder if our late interest will help us or hurt us.  He allegedly is down to the four schools I listed above and plans to decide in May/early June.  Maybe, for a change, Michigan can be the school that swoops in late and steals a guy.

A quick scan of 247Sports shows that, among his offers, Northwestern, Maryland and Nebraska have offered him as well although they show as "cool". From the highlights on Hudl.com, it definitely would not be for lack of talent though. He looks pretty good, and his high school stats for the past two seasons are rather productive to date. As a sophomore and junior, he's 310-567 for 3,609 yards, 26 TDs and 9 INTs as a passer, but  he also has 230 carries for 930 yards and 25 TDs on the ground.

Not really swooping in late

They have done a great job staying in contact with me via game invites and mail. I’d say that of all the teams interested in me, Michigan has arguably sent me the most mail and invited me to the most games. I really like the staff there a lot and I think Coach Hoke will always have Michigan competitive. The staff has done a great job with me.

That was from a post on December 2013.

I've been looking for which region each coach recruits and can't find it. Does anyone have the info?

New Mexico and Washington might actually be someone else's territory but that guy isn't going to be the one to watch the QB throw and then report back with what he thinks to Nuss.  I'm guessing for a lot of college's the OC (especially if he's also the QB coach) handles a large portion, if not all, of the recruiting with the QB's.

Rough estimate:

Nussmeier: Seems to go wherever the QB's are, high-level offensive targets

Mattison: Ohio, Georgia, Texas

Jackson: Detroit, Flint, Louisiana

Hecklinski: Illinois, Florida

Funk: Texas, Tennessee, Florida, Georgia

Ferrigno: Utah, California, Pacific Northwest

Smith: Ohio, Kentucky

Manning: Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina

Mallory: Indiana, Illinois, New Jersey, Maryland

I understand recruiting top rated guys from around the country, but all things being equal, I'd prefer a local guy who grew up watching the program and understanding the rivalries.

I understand what you're saying and I kind feel for a guy like Malzone who you know would commit on the spot if offered. It'd be great to get lifelong UM fans as players but I'll trust the coaches with offer decisions.

I still think Malzone is a good player and will get a full ride somewhere if not Michigan.
