BBall Recruiting - General 2020 Comments/Questions

Submitted by Matt EM on May 13th, 2019 at 12:32 PM

Well, this morning's news was a shock and disappointment to mostly everyone. My apologies for the thread title, didn't really know what else to label it.

Anyway, the news will hurt for some prospects in 2020, at least until the new staff is put in place. While it will help with others. Any questions, feel free to shoot away.

Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say, "help with others?"

Is it possible to generalize what type of recruit it will help with?

Coach Beilein, while an excellent Xs and Os coach (exclusive of last year), wasn't necessarily praised for his communication skills with recruits during his tenure at Michigan. Recruiting is rarely about objective factors........its about the ability to make a kid feel like a million bucks.

Coach Beilein's departure won't hurt our chances with an elite 2020 like Nimari Burnett, for example.

What do you know about how the Beilein news will affect the following players:

Zeb Jackson

Franz Wagner

Scooby Johnson

Jabri Abdur-Rahim

Cole Bajema

Jalen Wilson

Jaevin Cumberland

Also, if Yaklich or Saddi were hired how would that impact things?

Any info you have or speculation you're willing to share will be helpful. Thanks, Matt.

I wont speculate on anything. But Coach Beilein's departure will absolutely impact Zeb Jackson, and we'll need to see how things shake out with the new staff. I have no connections with Bajema. Obviously an impact on Franz, because he no longer holds a commitable offer because there is no coaching staff in place. Probably won't matter one way or another for Johnson. See my post above regarding Jabri. Wilson is likely solid if Yak is retained. No connections to Cumberland.

According to this report, you can scratch Zeb off the list of players to be concerned about:

the coach of elite 2020 point guard commitment Zeb Jackson reacted to the news with what appears to be a reaffirmation of his son's commitment. He also happens to be the father of current point guard Zavier Simpson.

"Yes, I know Coach Beilein went to Cleveland," the elder Simpson posted on Twitter on Monday. "If that’s what he wanted to do, I’m extremely happy for him. Now please stop calling and texting my phone. My son is going to play hard for whoever is coaching him. My nephew Zeb will do what he feel is best for him. We’re blessed!!"

I tried.  Just cant.  Im still in the denial stage.  Sorry.

Wait.  I got one.  Maybe the offense shifts away from point centric?

Well, this morning's news was a shock and disappointment to mostly everyone.

This is certainly micro-analyzing on my part but is there someone who is not bummed out, or dare say happy to see Beilein leave?

Would hiring Juwan Howard have anywhere near the impact of Penny to Memphis? I understand Penny's ties to Memphis and AAU but I am curious if you think Juwan would be an elite recruiter?

I really hope the new coach has no problem with extending offers to kids before they visit the campus.  That alone will help with future recruiting.
