Baseball: Benedetti named All-American, first 1st teamer in 27 years
The NCBWA announced its All-American teams today and Mr. Everything Carmen Benedetti was named a First Teamer.
Michigan has only had 15 First Team All-Americans ever. Benedetti is the first in 27 years.
The last was Jim Abbott in 1988 when he was named a First Team All-American by The Sporting News.
Michigan has had its share of 2nd and 3rd team All-Americans during the drought, but never a First Team All-American.
Benedetti was named 1st team Freshman All-American last season by Collegiate Baseball.
Michigan likely has him for only one more season as he will probably jump to the pros once he's drafted next year at this time like some of his teammates were yesterday and today.
Here's the list of Michigan's 15 First Team All-Americans-

Could you post some of his statistics? I didn't follow the team very closely and would be interested in learning how well he did as on OF, P batter, etc. TIA
He had a .352 batting average this season and led the team by a mile in RBIs with 71.
He also led the team in doubles with 25 and was 3rd in hitting with at 82 hits..
His 1.84 ERA was a pitching staff high this season (minimum of 15 appearances). In 14.2 innings pitched, he allowed only 4 hits and 3 earned runs while striking out 23 batters.

By beating North, no less :)
Too bad GPS football has a losing record all-time against my alma mater.

What....North? No zings without ID, son, or a well-placed zing is mere trollery.
As a graduate of GPS, beating North makes me smile.
