Band halftime

Submitted by Beavis on
So im at the game right now and was wondering- did that halftime show really happen? Girl power? Purple flags? Brittney spears? Spice girls? Pink? First time I booed anything at Michigan stadium. Pathetic. Worse than our effort on the field in the first half.

This thread is why we, as a fanbase, can't have nice things. We lose a game so we tear down the spirit groups who work so hard to provide the best gameday atmosphere in college football? The MMB seems to be a regular punching bag on this board and occasionally on the main page and that's so completely ridiculous. What's next--a thread complaining that the cheerleaders aren't pretty enough? If you have to angrily post about things like this on the internet, stay home next time because you won't see the halftime show on TV and won't have to subject your poor little self to a show you don't like.

Does any other fanbase treat their band like this?

We could have won by 40 today, and the halftime show still would of sucked.  Now, I wouldn't condone the booing anymore than booing the team, but just last home game we had multiple threads going ga-ga (pun intended) over the halftime show.  What, we can praise great performances, but not say bad ones were bad?  The football teams works just as hard (really, lets not kid ourselves, harder) and we dissect their performance to the tiniest +/- ratio.  They're all the same age, so if one can take it, so can the other.  Your cheerleading analogy doesn't work, and is a bit sexist.  No one said "don't the band members look goofy".  And if the cheerleaders took up the whole halftime doing a pyramid or something, and they fell on their ass, someone would probably mention it here too.

I was standing up and shooting the shit at half-time, when an old woman behind me gave me the, "down in front" cuz she couldn't see the band!! felt kinda bad for obstructing her view, but other than that, I didn't pay any attention to the half-time show.

I'm not a huge fan of the band shows just because thats not my "thing". But with that said  I never once would boo the band, thats terrible. Even though its not my thing, I still respect what the people in the band are doing. They are doing what they are told, and doing it the best they can(which is very well). If you don't like the selection of music don't boo the band...write a letter to the director or something actually productive.

Booing the band on any day is not cool, but, booing them on the last home game for the seniors in the band?  Pretty thoughtless, dude.

It takes all kinds, I guess.

Wow, really? How old are you? Your complete lack of respect for people that are putting in so much time and effort to please YOU and entertain YOU astounds me. Please tell me, why do you feel entitled to boo the band? What did you do during the football game, besides sit (or stand) and watch?

I'm sorry the band played a show you didn't like. Next time maybe the director will send out a survey to make sure every single person in the crowd of 112,000 people that are going to be attending the game will love the show before putting it on the field. That's totally possible to do when putting on a new show every week.

Clearly, you are completely justified in helping make a bunch of college students (especially seniors) feel like shit because you don't like one of the halftime shows they were in, and what you did was not in any way disrespectful, childish, or rude. In fact, it was totally productive! You sure showed those 18-21 year olds, they'll never play a Britney song again!

Grow up.
