The logic of these all make sense (the school is either a possible resume win or in fertile recruiting territory) except WVU. Sure, Nick's from WV, but do people think he's coaching in 2026/2027? Further, seems unlike him to put sentiment above something that would help the Tide.
It's almost as though people are sick of paying to see power teams beat up on cupcakes.
Yep, I'd love one cupcake game a year where all the freshmen and walk-ons get the fourth Q. Because in years that Rutgers is away we can't bring them on the travel squad, or we wouldn't need a cupcake game at all. Otherwise, play one decent team (e.g., Wake Forest, South Carolina) and one good team.
And yet here we are scheduling like shit to 'improve our chances at the playoff'
We should never have played ND crowd is having a tough day. Drop UW and schedule a non power five ?.
I too view this as evidence for CFP expansion. It's one thing to schedule Wisconsin for Jerry World. It is a whole other thing to schedule @ Ohio State or @ Oklahoma.
I thought the same thing.
The risk/reward for these games would change drastically if 2 loss teams had a chance to get in.
I’ll believe it when I see it. Alabama schedules northern home and homes and pulls out.
Bet this gets renegotiated to a neutral site game in Arlington
Bama has come north for home and home on rare occaisions - I would fault them more for generally playing weak non-con games (regular season) than for lack of travel.
Bama and Penn State had home and home games not that long ago. Supposedly the fans from each school were very nice to away school guests.
But which D2 team is Bama gonna drop to be able to schedule this game???
That’s what she said
Alabama traveled to Penn State back in 2011, so that’s not exactly true.
Disagree. I think it says that Saban retires before then or he wouldn’t have allowed it to be scheduled.
Agree. I don't think Saban or Day will still be around. Saban retires and Day goes back to the NFL.
Please make Alabama play in the coldest part of winter in Ohio...I would give Brian's left nut to see that.
Mid-September, unfortunately.
Will Saban even be coaching at that point? He can't have that many more years left before he'll retire.
He will be 75 by then. Doubt he is the coach when this game is played
This is a sure sign that the playoffs are expanding. Ohio State and Alabama wouldn't be risking these schedules if they thought it would ruin their chances at the playoffs some years.
A 1 loss OSU B1G champ won't miss the playoffs.
except when that happened [checks notes] ...two years ago
Yep. Ohio State was left out because 3 of the 4 teams were undefeated and the 4th team (Oklahoma) didn't get blown out by a mediocre team.
Well played
Assuming both teams are roughly top 5 caliber and the final score is respectable, the odds of either OSU or Bama bring left out of the playoff, if that game ended up being their only loss, are extremely remote.
What are the odds Saban is still coaching Bama by 2025...
If you want to be the best, you've got to beat the best!
Meanwhile, Warde keeps backing out most of the worthwhile home and homes.
Yet people are panicking because Washington got a transfer QB?
Like it. But I'm with the wait and see crowd. It's getting to the point where future non-conference schedules are nothing more than tentative. Look at all the changes to Michigan's. UCLA, Arkansas, probably others I'm forgetting.
This is pretty cool actually. Michigan is talking about a series with LSU and OSU Is playing Bama. Before this past season I kind of like Ed Michigan trajectory to LSU, mostly dominant but couldn’t get over the hump and beat Bama mostly due to QB play. OSU I likened to Bama in its dominance of the Midwest. I guess PSU would be Georgia they should get together and play
Whether it’s under Harbaugh or a future coach, the program had better take some serious leaps forward between now and a future match up with LSU we’ll get absolutely boat raced regardless of where it’s played.
Does this give the dates? by what they are showing its going to be in 2040s....who cares about 25 years in the future ,when it comes to college football .If this was 3-4 years down the road, thats still "blah" but 25 years down the road is "why talk about this"
It’s 2027 and ‘28, not 25 years down the road.
Voting for a volcano
Or a meteor strike at the 50 yard line in 2027
Who cares. Let me know when they step up and play the Rices and EMUs of the world
