B1G Hockey Quarterfinals Tickets Live

Submitted by Mr. Robot on February 28th, 2024 at 11:07 AM

Athletic department started selling tickets to the quarterfinal series at Yost, which we locked up a home spot for by sweeping Notre Dame last weekend.

Probably not helping my cause by alerting the masses here, but I'm a little pissed off they just went straight to opening the floodgates and want to vent about it. In the past they have given season ticket holders dibs. I know a lot of people that like to go to a game or two but not a whole season, so I fly solo on the season tickets. Home tournament games have been a great opportunity to go to a game with some of those friends since we could ask for more than our number of season tickets. Even took my girlfriend to the semifinal last year for our first date.

Now I'm scrambling to see who all wants to go and on what days and they didn't even wait to know what the game times are, which makes that even harder.

So B1G shoutout to the athletic department for finding another way to shaft us.

Yeah, that really sucks. What is the benefit to being a season ticket holder if you can't get first priority on big games like tournaments? I don't know if the B1G has control here, but if so it's yet another sign they are a poorly run conference. It would be easy enough to allot a certain number of tickets to the home and away teams and then open everything up to the general public. But then you have to remember that this is a sport that prefers to have playoff games in empty arenas rather than on campus arenas that would be packed and make for a great atmosphere.

This is the first year I've had season tickets for hockey since being a student.

I just called the ticket office to understand the process.

They told me that when renewing season tickets, there is an option to pre-purchase tickets for the B1G Quarterfinals.  Since I didn't go through the renewal process, I never knew that.

They also said, there was an email that went out February 13th, but I never received that message.

Oh well.  I guess now I know.

They have historically done both. I don't pre-purchase because I can't possibly know that far in advance if I'll be able to make it, much less how many I might want for other people. I go to 90%+ of the games so that fear is not important for the regular season, but why the hell would I commit a half year or more in advance to a few individual games that might not even happen, and thus I've effectively given the AD a zero interest loan.

I double checked my email and my spam folder and also did not receive anything. Would be curious if anyone else actually got this email.

I'm one of those weird season ticket holders who actually gave the ticket office the zero-interest loan, but I haven't done that every season.  I agree--I would be furious if I had lost out on my preferred seats because the ticket office couldn't be bothered to offer the tickets to me before putting them up for sale to the general public.

I will also add that I absolutely did not receive any e-mails from Michigan on February 13. They are lying to you.

I also do not have an email from February 13.

As a season ticket holder, I've got emails from "Michigan Hockey" dated 2/2, 2/8, 2/9, 2/16, 2/21, 2/22, 2/23....plus dozens more that I received in January and before.

Seems odd that I would've missed or not received this email that was allegedly sent on 2/13.

EDIT:  It looks like a few people received an email this morning.  I also did not receive that email.  The only email I received from Michigan Athletics was a confirmation of my football ticket renewal.

How was anyone shafted?  These home first-round playoff games typically do not sellout, so good of the AD to get a two-week jump on selling tix.

It's very unlikely that we would get to host a semifinal game this year anyways.

That is patently false. As of this writing, there is exactly one sideline section left with tickets for Saturday and it is single seats only. There are only three total sections with more than single seats left. Friday is better and still has a fair bit in one endzone, but will probably be down to singles soon enough.

So not only am I probably going to be stuck going solo to one or more of these, if at all, I won't even be able to have my normal seat. If you don't think season ticket holders deserve any kind of perks then I guess you think like our ever increasingly greedy athletic department does but considering they've been doing it the way they have for at least a decade, it'd have been nice to know they were doing that instead of pulling the rug out. Literally just a couple months ago season ticket holders got first crack for B1G and playoff tickets for football, again like always, so why the hell would we believe that was going to change now?

Hell, back in the CCHA days, at least with the student season tickets, they just straight up gave us first round tickets assuming we wouldn't be any worse than whatever the cutoff was to host the first round.

It's the AD's fault for doing something one way for decade(s) and then suddenly changing it, and apparent lying about not changing it to boot by claiming they sent an email they actually did not.

Not sure why you're referring to Purdue either, because that actually assists my argument, not yours. Hockey is so popular right now it's very hard to get new season tickets. As I myself exemplify, not only do season tickets holders go for the advance purchase when it isn't 8 months in advance, we buy even more than our usual quantity because we have a better opportunity to bring friends and family than our normally inflexible season tickets allot us. Now a bunch of Notre Dame fans who know there's an 80% or more chance they'll be travelling to Yost next weekend all have a crack at a public sale and also know that if it doesn't pan out they can probably make their money back and perhaps even turn a profit reselling them.

But hey, at least they sold those tickets a little bit faster so it hits the balance sheet in February instead of March!

I am a season ticket holder who chose to purchase these tickets when I renewed last summer, but I would think that before the floodgates were opened that season ticket holders would get something like a 24 hour advance window to purchase seats.
And, I do not recall getting anything from the ticket office on Feb 13.

Apparently we did not 'check the box' to automatically get them with our season tickets, and we did not get any such email on Feb. 13.  My first notice was the public on sale notice email that showed up this morning.  I know we have done this in the past, because we used to get a printed parking pass for every game and they INCLUDED every possible playoff game.

We have club seats, which are restricted to the premium seat holders exchange.  My wife was able to log on this morning and buy tickets for all 3 games, no problem.  But two odd points:

1) we got different seats, not our regular ones.  That means other people in our section (100% season ticketholders) did not prepurchase.

2) unlike the other posters who complained about $100 lower bowl prices, ours were the same as every other game this year, $30 per.

(Edit: apparently we got an email after the public on sale that gave us a code to purchase, and someone had already used it to purchase OUR seats!)

I followed up with another phone call.

There is/was a separate sale for club ticket holders, but it was not specific to the individual seats.  In other words, you're not guaranteed your tickets, but you can buy up to six.  So I guess the idea is that club ticket holders get first dibs on the club seats, but they're trying to allow for the fact that some will buy none and some will want more than their normal amount.

For some reason, not every club ticket holder got the email.

When the sale went live today, if you put in your code, you got access to the club seats not yet sold.  If you didn't put in the code, you only had access to the regular seats still available.
