Remind me, please: do transfers via the portal have to sit out a year?  Or would someone like Solomon be eligible to play in the fall of 2022?

With the new rule, you get one transfer with immediate eligibility, unless you already transferred during your college career, in which case you would have to sit out or apply for a waiver.

Being this is Solomon's first transfer, he'll be able to play in 2022.

Michigan has suffered its second transfer portal of the day on Monday as sophomore defensive back Darion Green-Warren has entered the transfer portal, The Maize and Blue Review has learned.

The California native did not see game action during the 2020 and 2021 seasons for the Wolverines.

Green-Warren was a four-star recruit coming out of Narbonne High School. He was ranked as the No. 124 overall prospect in the 2020 class.

I wish Mr. Solomon well, and hope this decision opens up more opportunities for him. It has to be very hard to commit to a school, attend that school, and then to realize that you are unlikely to see much playing time at that school.

I don't know enough about football to fully understand what goes into seeing the field. Obviously, part of the answer has to do with a player's size, part with speed, part with athletic ability, part with hard work, part with fitting into a particular scheme, part with how you mesh with coaches, part with filling a particular need. Obviously, some players are more talented than others. But I also have sometimes not really understood why some players are particularly suited to one team and are a bad fit on another team. This would be a great article sometime.

As an example, Brian has sometimes lamented that the offense has no role for a fullback. I also lamented myself that Michigan seemed to favor smaller offensive and defensive linemen starting with Rich Rodriguez. I would love to have someone explain to me what exactly Michigan is looking for and who they're not looking for.
