Ann Arbor to West Lafayette

Is it really almost 5 hours to get to Purdue from AA? Has anyone made this drive before? I get the feeling I need to leave @ 6am... Any help?

I would say its about 4.5 hours depending on how fast you're driving, traffic, etc.  The fastest way is probably 69 to IN-24 west to IN-25.

It tlooks likes it's anywhere between 250-300 miles, depending on the route you take.  If you let Google Maps do the work, they take you all the way west on I-94 to pick up I-65 south.  That's 300 miles but 4.5 hours.  If you avoid interstates, it's closer to 250 miles but 5.5+ hours.  Personally, I would go I-94 to I-69 to I-224 (Huntington) to I-24 (Logansport) to Rt 25 to W. Lafayette.  It'll probably take about 5 hours.  Sorry.  At least the weather looks good.

As someone who's taken both ways on different occassions (a few years ago though), going over to I-65 and taking that south is the best way.  Yes, it's a little longer distance, but you're flying on the freeway the whole time instead of driving back roads through small towns, so it takes less time.

I have to disagree about I-65.  My brother is a Purdud grad, so my car has more than its share of Detroit-to-West-Laf miles on it, and I've taken both ways too and honestly I like the backroads route better on US-24.  They're not that backroadsy, really - it's much shorter and I think it's faster.  For all but the last 30 miles or so it's sort of quasi-freeway anyway with two lanes each way and you can drive pretty much at freeway speeds.  I'd definitely call it less than 5 hours from AA to WL, because 5 to 5:30 was the driving time to D.  And - these two are the kickers here - 1, there ain't a damn gas station within 40 miles of WL on 65, and I know because I was feverishly looking for one as the needle tried to push its way past E.  And 2, I-65 in northern Indiana in the winter is the most depressing, godforsaken, colorless landscape I've ever seen.  If the cars had all had tailfins on them I'd have sworn I was driving through some old black-and-white movie, it was awful.

Be advised, I'm pretty sure the on ramp from 94W to 65S is closed, unless it opened in the last week or so.

I've been to West Lafayette a few times, and taking 94W to 65S is your best bet because, like others mentioned, most other routes require you to drive in through long ass country roads which you probably want to avoid. But again, the ramp has been closed for sometime with construction.
