But they also said there was a signficant amount of alcohol consumed on both parties and I'm pretty sure he was under some form of probation due to his prior DUIs that forbid him from drinking.

I'm not 100% sure but I think I remember seeing that in the local media here.

Moeler already had a problem when he was in school.  I personally witnessed something that would be an "incident" today but was just "boys being boys" back then.  People on the team "had his back" and obviously got him home OK.

Sorry: no details will ever be forthcoming.  Suffice to say that in today's culture, he would be getting help before the problem became as severe as it is now.  Back then, it was just another night and just another drunk.  He always played well on the field, so there was no real red flag for the coaching staff.

At this point, I hope he finally gets the help he needs.  It's never too late.

Word during the search was that he played a decently significant part in Harbaugh's recruitment and also wanted the O-line job here. Many considered him a lock and I'm certainly glad Harbaugh looked to Drevno instead.

I just finished Bacon's book . Don't think Moellers name was mentioned. Could be wrong but a significant part of the book and, IMO, the most interesting , was Harbaugh' s recruitment. Lots of alums, friends mentioned but don ' t recall Moeller? I didn't realize Harbaugh's recruitment was so orchestrated from outside the athletic department. Didn't A. Moeller have a problem with Bo in 1980? Too bad, that's 2 Moellers whose careers were impacted by alcohol.

I defintiely wanted him (not knowing his past) when Harbaugh was hired. After 3 years of Funk, I realized I didn't "gotta have that Funk."

Moeller seemed like a great fit professionally. However, knowing what I know...I hope he never sets foot on the M sideline until he's fully rehabilitated - and certainly not in any professional capacity.

I also now know what Drevno can do...and I want no part in anyone else as OL coach for the University of Michigan.

That goes for our entire staff...still not sure how long Fisch stays, if he goes, Soup Campbell plugs right in as WR coach. But if we can keep this staff together forever, I'm all for it - these guys are all BEASTS at what they do.

"getting the band back together". He might have helped, but I don't think the people playing a significant role in recruiting Harbaugh were talking about it in public. The people who considered Moeller a lock for the job didn't know about his problems. They were also speculating about an entire staff of coaches with strong Michigan ties. His prospects were shot down quickly by some on this board.

Yea. Kinda hard to yell at your players for drinking and partying during the one time in their lives that they are most likely to do it...when you are half schnokered m-f and roughing your girl up and getting the cops called on you.
