PITCH IT TO BREASTON - AGGGGGH!!!!
PITCH IT TO BREASTON - AGGGGGH!!!!
Welcome to the No Defense Bowl. 49-46 still 6mins left in the 3rdQ, r u kidding me. It might score more than the Michigan-ILL game. I like it
Mods erased the "RG3 isn't as billed" post? Interesting.
Can't even go to bathroom without missing a TD score
I apparently have Baylor in this one. It might have been the fact that I was about five Hacker-Pschorrs in when I made the picks, but I have confidence in RGIII's ability to rule this game.
Kraut beer is sneaky; 1 is good, 2 is great, 3, 4, then BLITZKREIG!!!
as tequilla. 1 tequilla, 2 tequilla, 3 tequilla FLOOR!
Prediction: RGIII returns to early season form with more TDs than incompletions.
Their jerseys suck though.
Yup, that's the excuse for Baylor Def
don't know if Denard could do that on the run
Glad we didn't end up matched up against these guys in a bowl. RGIII is the stuff of defensive coordinator's nightmares.
Even on the run after a fumbled snap, his pass is right on the money
Too bad the receiver was ineligible...And Baylor scores the first TD. Well done Bears, well done.
Did anyone actually pick against Baylor? Has anyone watched them over the course of the season as I have? They may be lacking a great defense, but overall they're a pretty darn good football team. RGIII is a beast, I thorougly enjoy watching him play the game (I'm very bias as I'm a former 400 hurdler myself), damn near as much as I enjoy watching Denard.
That was a wonderful recovery from a bad snap.
Baylor gets a 4th down conversion too...and a TD! Where is that 7-5 Huskies defense now? Oh, wait....on the field.
That was impressive!
The old "empty-backfield-and-QB-sneak" scores another TD.
Might make this more interesting than the line thought it would be.
Is it slowly looking like EVERYONE who "should" be in the Sugar Bowl instead of VT isn't really that good? (Other than Boise)
Which team's non-defense will give up the least number of points?
Just because their offense will score the non-least amount of points.
and my Bears are down 11. Not an auspicious start. Let's see that second-half open-playbook rich-moneybags-old-guard-Heisman-stock-quarter-back-man-ball-Heis-man Robert Griffin III can uncork some dat ole timey magic.
When it went to 18? (not counting the 9 point spread)
Oooh man all us bowl pickem folk might be up the creek on this one. Fortunately Washington is still 7-5 Washington.
Yep, caught it on the replay. Nice effort by RG3 to get a block.
Thankfully they showed the replay and I got to see Griffin lay some wood.
Could not be more perfect; spielman was talking about the TD run and saying, "watch this great angle..." just as the cameras were showing the cheerleaders from below, practically looking up their skirts.
When I saw that I just thought of a future apology from him, or someone totally taking it out of context on youtube...Or both. lolz
Love the matte helmet trends. Wouldn't mind seeing matte winged helmets. I'll get off your lawn now.
Needs to hold up their end of the bargain here and score in 2 minutes.
The Alamo Bowl, not so much.
If RG3's dad is RG Sr, how is he #3?
I think the Sr-Jr designation is used to keep the generations straight between any two of them, regardless of what "number" they might be.
My stream keeps going teal at odd times.
I think that is true of everyone's feed. Kinda annoying.
So does my T.V.
ESPN is doing a wonderful job not carrying this game. The screen goes blue every minute or so.
Is it me or does speilman look like he does massive amounts of coke the night before his broadcasts?
Sweet, Ron Cherry is doing the game. For anyone unfamiliar:
I wish I was able to watch more of his games this year. Damn that was impressive,
That's just dirty
Looks like Greg Robinson found work.. Oh wait thats Nick Holt.
At least ESPN is subliminally suggesting Go Blue every few minutes!
Andrew Luck is the next Jay Cutler, book it. If I had the oppurtunity to trade back and get RG3 with a few extra picks, I would damn sure do it.
Is it me or do both of these teams look a little undersized?
Baylor falls for the draw play and gives up the 1st down on 3rd and 9. sad face.
It's ok the faster UW scores the faster RG3 gets back on the field.
Has it occurred to any of the folks complaining about the computers' love of the Big 12 this year that the computers might be right?
You do know Washington sucks? The Big 12 is hard to predict to be as unbiased as possible. How would they do against a decent defense considering no one in that league seems to play it at all? I think there are some dynamic offenses in the Big 12 for sure but I don't know if there are many great teams.
Both Big 12 teams so far have won, both have covered the spread. My sense is that the maligned programs (Massey, Sagarin predictor) are probably doing better than most of the entries in the pickem--the only convincing argument would be to out-predict them.
I would not rule out a Northwestern or an Iowa upset over one of these Big12 teams. Their match ups are favorable in almost every bowl game except KSU and Arkansas yet I believe they will finish around 500 for the bowl season.
The Oklahoma game's my 35, A&M my 33. Let's revisit this in a couple of days.
Northwestern loves covering yet still losing bowl games.
Northwestern is the one I am counting on. A healthy Persa could be enough to beat an over rated Aggies team.
Chickens, hatch. Counting. Something something.
Why, announcers? Why did you start talking about Tebow for no apparent reason?
Well he is the greatest college football player of all time
is the worst! All the TUO$ plugs makes me nautious!
Wife's incessant yapping keeps the Speilman babble in the background in my cave. Not sure which one I would rather have.
Agreed. He even managed to take the double option that Neb used on UofM. And attributed it to what Urban will bring to Ohio
Chris Spielman =
That was impressive.
Alright. I'm really enjoying this game. Seriously, RGIII is amazing and Baylor is pretty good, but the fact that they won 9 games with that D really goes to show you that the Big 12 just doesn't like to play defense.
Indeed. Baylor gave up an average of 37 points a game this season. That's Greg Robinson bad.
Good for Baylor for having their best season in decades but they're getting a little too much respect, IMO. Beating a crappy Texas team lets them pass us in the polls despite having 3 losses (one of which they gave up 55 points to a 6-6 Texas A&M team).
They're a typical Big 12 team. All offense and no defense. If you're that kind of team anywhere else in the country, you're shrugged off. But having those qualities in the Big 12 is impressive to the media and computers for some reason.
Is there any doubt anymore that Big12 defenses are a complete and utter joke? IF Baylor could get 9 wins with this atrocious seive that they call a defense (GERG anyone?), that's a mark that your conference only plays on one side of the ball.
Only thing RG's got that 'Lace doesn't is a twin in Andre 2000
Witnessing some highscoring history right here.
That Michigan's next coach was going to be the Almighty Sark, according to THE KNOWLEDGE.....
3 quick reactions:
1. Where's the D?
2. Heisman winner getting outscored by Washington?!!
3. Spielman, stop dying your hair. It doesn't work for Nic Cage, it doesn't work for you.
See also: Smith, Troy.
I want the Big 12 to lose all their games. I still don't understand why the computers love them so freaking much. Baffling that Texas can be unranked in both human polls, but then get ranked by the computers.
They didn't have any trouble covering the spread last night--could it be that the computers were closer to the truth than the humans?
Everybody here that's bitching about the computers should post a link to their pick'em entry. Let's see how you're doing.
This is the same Washington team that got blown out by a 9 loss Oregon State team last month.
That was their only loss to an unranked team though. They put up 38 on Nebraska; they've shown some offense this year, though the defense hasn't been good. Perfect opponent for Baylor--I'm sure the Alamo doesn't mind a MAC-style game.
If you're going to evaluate every team based on their worst game, pretty much everyone sucks. Which seems to be the tenor of a lot of the commentary in these parts lately.
Washington comes out swinging and connects on a TD pass for 50 yards or so.
Baylor can't handle all of the SEC SPEED.
Wow, that didn't take long, a minute into the 3rd and Washington hits paydirt.
.....a baylor sports junkie is feverishly preparing a radio rant involving HR Pufnstuf and the use of the word "PUCKER!!!"
Not a whole lot of defense in this game and you take a knee in the end zone? Shame!
Baylor is really good. We really did screw them out of a BCS game. sarcasm
For Kansas State about now?
TCU didn't exactly wrap themselves in glory either.
Lol this whole idea of "defense" is a sick joke.
"Let me tackle myself!" *dive*
trying to figure out the controls on Tecmo Super Bowl. "Is this the tackle button? Ffffu it is [Mike form-tackles air 5 yards away from the developing play, which goes through the gap and gains 15]." That said, I can Bo Jackson helpless teams to death with the best of them ha
Interesting stat: 6 of the last 10 Heisman trophy winners went on to lose their bowl games...
2000: Chris Weinke - Lost to Oklahoma 13-2
2001: Eric Crouch – Lost to Miami 37-14
2002: Carson Palmer – Beat Iowa 38-17
2003: Jason White – Lost to LSU 21-14
2004: Matt Leinart – Beat Oklahoma 55-19
2006: Troy Smith – Lost to Florida 41-14
2007: Tim Tebow – Lost to Michigan 41-35
2008: Sam Bradford – Lost to Florida 24-14
2009: Mark Ingram – Beat Texas 37-21
2010: Cam Newton – Beat Oregon 22-19
...doesn't bode well for Griffin. But this may be the highest scoring bowl game in history. Long way to go.
Option TD, how I love you, bobbles and all! <3
Or does that just send it to OT?
2010 Illinois flashbacks....
...so you are aware, a 70-70 game sends it into a scenario where the rules are much akin to gin rummy. The first team to successfully form sufficient melds to eliminate their deadwood wins. Sadly, this means the ruthless slaughter of both defensive backfields.
I'm in favor of it.
Over/under on this game like 76.5? Almost there just 5 minutes into the second half.
Personal foul after trucking the ballcarrier? Come on!
Refs must be from the SEC. Never have they seen such unsportsmanship like behavior.
MMMMM Beer at college football games.
Tacopants = infinite eligibility in all conferences. His redshirt status is augmented by a Game Genie.
Spielman seems a bit testy...
Agreed, I few times I have felt some friction in that booth b/w he and other guy (name has escaped me).
than when he asked spielman if he needed a hankerchief to clean the drool off of his face? That was outstanding
EDIT: by the way, we're back to not playing defense anymore. Carry on scoring at will, gentlemen!
Haha I thought the drool comment was actually pretty funny...but apparently Spielman didn't inherit the sense of humor gene
and by his own admission on the TD review, he doesn't understand sarcasm either.
This game or Michigan-Penn State earlier?
WUT?! Consecutive 3 and outs? What the hell is happening?
I wasn't sure if it was allowed in this game, but that almost looked like defense.
Ahhhh, special teams, remove that vision from my mind....
Baylor could not tackle a drunken toddler with ankle weights.
memories of your recruitment...good times.
A strike to the 19-yard line....literally.
Baylor kick coverage: "He's sacred! Don't touch him!"
Washington offense: "HOLD ONTO THE DAMN BALL"
All the mediocrity happened so fast in that last series, need a moment to recover there.
So I sit down and Washington's defense continues to be mediocre.
I am so glad I am watching this right now.
3 point game.
How many times do you see a jump ball to an open receiver on a two-point conversion? Baylor, don't be afraid to target and crowd the likely targets on offense.
More tackles for Baylor special teams than the starting D methinks.
This is the most entertaining bowl game I've watched all year.
Not another 42-39 game. Luckily Baylor's giving away pass yards like it's going out of style.
This is like watching last years UMich-Illinois game
What was the over-under on Urban Meyer mentions by Spielman?
5--keep money on both sides -___-
I think they just need to bang and get it over with so Spielman can actually go back to his real job duties.
His real job duties.
Go for 2!!!!
Becoming out of control. Wow.
"This is setting defense back about 450 years" - Chris Spielman
I have to agree with him.
Now we know the answer to what would happen if GERG played GERG. Unstoppable force vs. Movable object.
It's like using a fire hose to push an inflatable raft across a lake.
This game rocks. It's so much watching these types of games as long as it's not your D that is constantly getting smoked.
Until today I never wondered what Madden on television might look like...
this game is going to make the illinois game from last year look like the lsu alabama game from this year.
just kidding, but seriously.....
3 OTs in regulation.
the Arena Football Bowl
This Baylor team, giving up 49 (so far) to a pretty average Washington team is, allegedly, the #12 team in the nation.
I don't see how you can be ranked #12 in the nation with a defense that resembles the Michigan defenses of the past 3 years
It resembles my defense on Madden.
Speilman is hilarious. He continued to jabber thoughout the cut-away into the commercial break self-aggrandizing himself and insisting that he won't critisize the defenses or something like that. He's really just pathetic to listen to.
Speilman was making funnies.
We led Illinois 38-31 at the start of the 4th quarter last year. These teams already have that beat by 19 points with 7 1/2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter.
Every play is going for at least 20 yards. Or so it seems.
..to start kicking onside? What difference does field position make if they've got an 80% chance of going the length of the field anyway?
It would limit the offensive yards even if you don't recover.
Whoa my brain is melting
Well hey another TD. Imagine that.
There is only one phase of the game in this game.
F*ck the review - my statement holds.
Just give it to him, it's not like they would stop them on a 1st and goal.
Well at least we know the BCS got one thing right finally when they took us instead of Baylor. I feel like any member of this blog would be a perfect choice to commentate this game for ESPN. Nobody knows more about an unbalanced team than we do.
I have points on BU in my bowl blowout!
"We'll get a Goal Line stand"
....."Are you being sarcastic now?"
This is quite possibly the most ridiculous game I have ever witnessed. This game is going to end up with whoever gets to 70 first.
I can't wait for Washington's riveting goal line defensive stand...
Yup, TD Baylor. For real, this time.
Damnit. I took the under on this game. I feel foolish.
...that the under would be "under half the distance at perigee from the Earth to the Moon as measured in kilometers". This may be incorrect, yes.
This game is going to go on for about 6 hours.
broke the record for most points ever by a losing team in regulation, and that was only 49-42 after 3 quarters.
I don't think either team's going to beat Georgia Tech's 222 though.
RGIII is going to get a ton of love from the media in the write up of this story; so far 22 of 31 for 240 with a TD. Really, however, does this performance say much about RGIII or the absolute inept defense he is playing against?
Enjoy the RGIII love fest after the game.
DROB >>> RGIII IMO!
to last year except if we never really had to punt & our defense was worse. What a game! Far better than 9-6 IMHO...
The highest scoring bowl game in history was Marshall's 64-61 victory over East Carolina in the 2001 GMAC Bowl. That game was 51-51 at the end of regulation.
No game can withstand the sheer awesome of 67-65 3OT.
Baylor is relying on Tacopants for deep middle help. This is a poor strategy.
+1 for the TacoPants reference.
Baylor D is getting some swagger.
"the players have no idea what they're doing" - Chris Spielman
Baylor's defensive coaches have not exactly demonstrated excellence this evening. One wonders if Tony Dews is involved somehow...
Bastard kicker could have cost us witnessing history.
God, this is just crazy.
LOOK AT THAT BLOCKING
Bo and Woody are spinning like lathes watching this game.
This game is obscene
...and they weren't confused and didn't actually use a sack. That's something.
Better, the Washington defense backs that up with the "f*ck the perimeter, rush someone who doesn't have the ball" defense.
Just.... wow. Neither of these teams could stop blind and celibate nuns from scoring.
Technically celibate nuns have never scored.
They couldn't score. Just haven't.
This game is going to be won on a goal line stand. WRITE THIS DOWN.
/don't write this down
...someone will be standing on the goal line and get knocked into the end zone by a shitty tackle, right?
I feel kind of dirty for watching but have no plans to stop
I feel bad for the Baylor kickoff specialists hamstring tomorrow.
Wow, a commercial break that was not preceded by a TD.
I feel bad for the soul dongs of both teams.
Protip: If you're going to ankle tackle someone, don't make the "PLEASE, FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, JUST FALL OVER!" face like that guy before the break.
Over/Under on the number of defensive coaches fired after this bowl game for both teams combined?
I'll start the betting at 3.
There is nobody to fire - nobody is coaching defense on either team.
I don't have a response. You are absolutely correct. The under has won.
I bet a certain former Michigan coach now in the southwest USA has more wood than a lumberjack watching this mess. Lotsa spread, lotsa scoring, defense optional.
Because RichRod hated those top 10 defenses he had at West Virginia...come on...
Right now this man is smiling...a lot.
If this is PAC Dozen defense I can't wait for 2017.
One of these two defensive coordinators for Arizona.
Gotta go for it
This is the opposite of the ND FSU game
This is kind of opposite of every game I've ever watched.
Wow, that was athletic.
Terrific play there by the Husky QB
That was a great TD by the Washington QB. Amazing effort.
I'm convinced both defenses were instructed prior to the game to make the opposing offenses look as good as possible.
Greg Robinson start coaching both defenses?
Seriously, this is very entertaining. Best bowl game so far.
I think this is much worse that GERG defenses. Even if only by a little.
TD stands. What a spectacle we are seeing here tonight.
So tired but must keep watching....
I never thought I would see it but this is worse defense than 2010 Michigan/Illinois. That game was 45-45 at the end of regulation.
How do you let anyone get behind you?
Even if they're getting 10 yards a play, it can't be worse than 50.
They call this football? It's more like 500.
Deepest to deepest!!! Never gets old Spielman. Thanks for bringing up old memories of us laying the wood to your alma mater.
First to 70 wins?
These defenses are worse than a hypothetical Gerg '10 defense with 3rd stringers would have been.
This is historic. I want overtime so these teams reach triple digits.
I don't think OT will be necessary to get there.
I'll take widespread panic for $500, Alex.
These defenses just suck, there is nothing more to analyze. What a joke.
Serious question: if it was Michigan vs Baylor in the Sugar Bowl, what would the final score be?
77-42 michigan wins.
It's probably slightly harder to score on OSU cheerleaders than these two defenses.
Both teams have combined for 1299 yards of total offense. There are more than 8 minutes remaining.
I've ever witnessed in a football game. This is more embarrassing than entertaining...
I sincerely hope that the loser of this game tops 70 in regulation.
Baylor 74 - Washington 63
If it gets to OT somehow - I don't think the game will end this year.
National Championship game will be this entertaining.
...predicts total passing yards:
This just has to be demoralizing for defenders.
Good thing there aren't any at the game.
Washington's got a pretty good TE, and he's a freshman.
I love defense. This game is a clinic on what not to do.
Who is the Baylor fan with the d and fence logo...
Someone who doesn't watch Baylor.
HALOL at D Fence sign guy
Wolverines > Big Foot
I mean at some point the Def has to go up to the OFF say "guys stop scoring so fraking fast, we need rest". But On the other side, the Def won't be in there for long.
This is becoming a Who has a Defense Bowl
What is it with football players and roller coasters?
See? Defense wins championships.
It goes really fast, has it's ups and downs, is exciting, but kinda makes you want to puke.
It's like having sex with a fat chick.
Naw... it couldn't be....
Baylor is going to score on accident here.
I wish this game never had a game clock, or just go to OT. So interest to watch OFF dominate Def.
But that totally should have been a late hit penalty.
Mercy non-call by the ref.
I think the only way Washington wins this game now is if someone on Baylor pulls an Anthony Thomas against Northwestern.
Thanks. I've been actively trying to avoid recalling the NW game for the past 3 hours or so. It's earily similar, really. But entirely too painful.
That ties an FBS record (all games, not just bowls).
How the hell does a BCS conference school give up 441 yards rushing?
With three minutes left?
In a bowl game?
And only be down four points?
This is not real football.
Put this defensive nightmare out of its misery
it's Xbox 360/ Playstation
Does anyone else think that if operating under drinking rules, we'd be getting our stomachs pumped?
Now enjoy the RGIII love fest.
Now there's a chance they'll lose on an onside kick.
Of Michigan's basketball game tonight.
He is a good looking running back
Baylor really did just score completely by accident. I'm dumbfounded
is this and1 football?
Gave up 56 points so far and might cover the spread.
Washington.....I think you might suck.
Yes, yes, sadly, I have, Chris.
Well that was just stupid
I hate to agree with Spielman but I have movefd from being entertained to disgusted.
That dude is going to catch some serious shit tonight.
and this will be higher scoring than our basketball game against Penn State a few hours ago.
Fat man with football
That jerk just cost us witenssing a record # of points. Boo that man that fumbled.
lol. u know they never get to touch the ball. he was like eff this. I'm running it. lol
This victory should move Baylor up in the polls. The computers will be impressed.
And that is truely sad.
...but they won and they covered.
Well that was exciting. But if they finish in the Top 10 at then end of the year, then something is seriously flawed with the system.
There is no way in hell that team is top ten.
Nope. But man, the computers love the Big 12, and now that they are 3-0 (I think) in the bowls so far, it's only going to help them.
Came against the PAC-10, who's 0-3.
With a win, we'd leapfrog them. I mean, hope, at least.
No doubt. They had absolutely no defense.
You watch crappy bowl games and have open threads about them.
Why the F ask him when he's going to decide, twice?
With a question, they'll be truthful. #Scrubsreference
College football... you gotta love it.
Time to do something else besides witness the demolition of the proud game of Football.
This game was the exact opposite of LSU v Bama, yet just about as bad.
You have to wondering what U-W's quarterback is thinking, other than 'WHAT MORE DO YOU FKN WANT ME TO DO?!?!'
I like listening to RG3's interviews. Smart guy. Classy. What I hate is how every time he's interviewed, ESPN thinks they're gonna be real clever and get him to announce his NFL decision.
I really thought this would be the RG3 show, but 427 yards on the ground and 7 rushing touchdowns from Bears other than the Heisman winner tell a different story.
Man that game was insane. Early on I thought UW was going yo get blown out. Then I thought BU was going to get blown out. In the 2nd half it went blow for blow. RG3 played well but Price looked pretty darn good too.
