Is #98 the new #1?
I'm in the market for my first ever Michigan football jersey. Ever since I was a kid I wanted a #1 jersey (because of David Terrell). Now they don't really use that number, or even sell that jersey (except for a few places).
I'm wondering if the #98 jersey will become the new #1. Each year it will be given to the best player. Potentially you could always have the jersey of the best player. I guess it's hard to say how often they will give it out. If all else fails it's still a Tom Harmon jersey.
EDIT: ONE OF the best players. Better?

and see the potential upside he brings, I feel he has not done enough to warrant wearing the #98. He started a handful of games last season and has had at least six turnovers the last two weeks, including two pick-6s. I saw the hype machine in full-on mode at UTL-2 and it was cool, but until he wins at least 6 games without multiple turnovers and then only 1 or 2 INT's, I think he should go back to #12.

Doesn't anybody else see the hypocrisy involved in stressing the team yet creating a culture where issuing numbers is seen as status? Football is supposed to be a team sport yet we are now highlighting individuals with special patches and sacred numbers?
It's kind of f'd up...no wonder most teams avoid this nonsense.

I don't know about #98, but I do know that Norfleet needs a special Tom Harmon-style tearaway jersey. Think about how many returns he'd break, ducking under would-be tacklers who are left with only small pieces of jersey in their hands.

I could see #98 being awarded to the best/most important/captain of the offense. I'd love for it to get used every few years only when we have a dynamic playmaker worthy of wearing it. I think Devin is a great choice for it; even if he throws picks he can put the ball in the endzone. If it gets used every year then it loses some of the mystique.
