247 article on Speight's story

Pretty great read on how Wilton almost left. Not sure if all of these details have been documented before. I feel like I've heard some of it at one point or another, but it's not a horrendously fluffy article either. Still, a good read on a slow board day so far (at least until a UFR is posted).

I'm trying to operate on 3 hours of sleep and I was hoping to to have some UFR fun to keep me awake.
Does that mean we'll get UFR Thursday-Friday or both tomorrow?

In these trying times, there is no way to know what tomorrow will bring.

Trying times? I'm so very pumped for tomorrow, and the Saturday after that, and the Saturday after that, and especially the Saturday after that!

That thing we're totally not discussing today.
November 9th, 2016 at 6:13 PM ^
And I'm totally not going to be the one to start the thread. I just want to see it happen.

Reading this and I gotta wonder how much of Speight's success is Harbaugh's teaching skills vs. the "cream rise to the top" competition strategy. I believe it's both, but I often wonder if Speight was always this good and he just needed to find his own potential, or Harbaugh worked his ass off the mold this man. Either way, Speight has worked his ass off to be the leader of this team and the best part to me was this:
"Heading into Iowa on Saturday, Speight says he relayed to the team that they didn't come this far with nine wins on the season to leave Iowa City 9-1."

Competition, cream rising and Harbaugh teaching. I have all the confidence in Harbaugh and Fisch developing QB's and feel if Speight had left that O'Korn would be having the same amount of success and would be improving as the weeks went on also. I think we have QB's with talent and the only thing holding any/all of them back was lack of top flight coaching. I expect all of our QB 's to continue to improve, but you make the most gains actually playing games and that is where Speight is getting the biggest advantage.

Content: great. Speight is awesome, obviously I'm pumped he stuck around.
Editing: really terrible. A ton of missing words, sentences that didn't make sense, incorrectly conjugated verbs. Is 247 usually that bad?

"Drake was like, 'Are you sure? Are you sure?' I guess maybe Drake me into it a little bit, to give it another week.”
Thought maybe being Draked into something was some new slang the kids are using these days.

I thought being Draked meant getting run over by a forklift

This is the way Nick wrote that passage in his similar stirring article about Wilton Speight on today's MLive board.
"I woke up in the dorms during camp, Drake Harris was my roommate and I had told a bunch of my teammates that I was out," Speight says. "And Drake was like 'are you sure, man, are you sure?' I guess maybe Drake and Jake (Butt) talked me into it a little bit, to give it another week."

But yes, a cool story nonetheless.

Wow, good catch.
That looks either like a nice editing job by Nick or somehow two guys wrote a very similar story within 8 hours of each other. 247's was posted this at 9PM last night. Nick at 5AM this morning. Neither story gives credit to the other one and neither sources where they got their quotes either.
Here's Nick's for those interested: http://www.mlive.com/wolverines/index.ssf/2016/11/wilton_speight_recall…;

The 247 article also doesn't indicate that the author had actually interviewed Speight. I wonder if there is an interview out there somewhere that both articles are based on.

Wilton was interview by the media yesteryday. He told the story of his journey.
WTKA's podcat has it http://www.wtka.com/2012/09/06/podcasts/ it is #4

Whaaaat? There has NEVER been an MLive article without missing words and horrible or no editing! I'm not even going to go back and reread to make sure that article wasn't an exception, I'll bet one of my feet that article has glaring mistakes in it. I'll take your word for it if you reread it carefully, go on I dare you!

I love "he had no chance to supplant O'Korn as the force majeure." That has to be the strangest use of force majeure I have ever seen.
