2/20 Bracketology: Moving up?

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Bizarre.

We moved up in Lunardi's.

We're a 9 seed against 8 VCU in Buffalo with a second round game against 1 Villanova

Jerry Palm has us as a 9 seed against Iowa State in SLC with #1 Gonzaga in the second round.

DRatings has us in as a 10 seed.

We are not listed as a Last Four In or Last Four Byes in any of these.

TeamRankings actually still has us as a solid 11 seed along with NC-Wilmington, Houston and Michigan State in that seeding position. We've actually been an 11 in their projections for the last two games now, which is interesting although not entirely shocking. With 5 games left, they give us a 61% of making the tournament given our schedule.

 4 Purdue
 5 Wiscy
 6 Maryland
 8 Minny
 8 Northwestern
 9 Michigan
10 Michigan State

Next Four Out: Indiana

On the bright side, the BTT is up for grabs like never before.

and I don't see why this should surprise. Any sophisticated analysis worth a crap is going to note an away game against a slightly higher-rated team that goes to OT--not to mention 41 or whatever cockamamie FTs to whatever trifling number we got. . . We can't collapse, but I think we are in pretty solid.

Not only that, but we are now a solid team. We were jobbed last night, or we would be four of our last four. And from the looks of things the B1G--and Minnesota--have a fucking problem with basic fairness; MSU and several other squads have had a similar differential in games at the Barn this year. F*ck that. When you lose trust in basic fairness, your game may be in trouble.

That would be a very broad definition of "bubble".  The last at-large teams are seeded #12.  So if you're a 9 seed, you are (in the eyes of the committee) ahead in the pecking order of  about 12 other teams that got in.

Now obviously, we've got to keep winning to keep our place.

is only one bad loss or two consecutive losses from being out from probably being out.  Those 12 teams have a pretty tiny difference in resume.

That tenous balance is what has us firmly on the bubble right now.  Literally no margin for error because a loss to Rutgers and good chance we are in the first or next four out.

Our post defense has been better as of late, but they have so much size.

I think we realistically need to win the Rutgers, Nebraska, and NW games to be a lock.  If we pull off the Purdue game it would be sweet though.
