2022 OT Connor James set to commit on Thursday

Jones is a 6'7 285lb OT from Monument, CO. Currently rated #78 OT and #774 player nationally. He took a 3 campus visit last weekend to Michigan, Indiana, and NW and signs are pointing to Michigan with Lorenz and Marich both putting crystal balls for the good guys.

No, except for the obvious “injury” caveat, but you can say that about anyone.
He was ranked #335 in the composite. Not every player is going to be an All-American. He’s already a multi-year starter on the line and was good enough to keep Mayfield at RT. Hopefully he heals up and gives us 2 All-Big 10 seasons or gets drafted after next year.

You can't teach size. Will he come in and a be starter right away? Probably not. Will he be a contributor his first 2 seasons on campus? Probably not. Will he be a starter in 3 years and a contributor on the line? I think so. Sometimes you need to look at the big picture and realize he may be a project. If it works out you will have a solid player and contributor down the road.

Yup pretty much. Plus we're not looking for an instant starter at OT. For once we have depth there and can afford to let players develop into starters. Also OL is notoriously difficult to project. That being said, not all 3 stars OL are equal and I'm gonna leave it to someone with more of an eye to see if he is displaying the tools to be a successful player down the road. Warinner's earned that trust with his recruitment and development of players so far.

Also, this is SUPER early in the 2022 cycle. Players move up and down the rankings or Michigan parts ways with prospects that don't continue to develop in their senior season. So it's way too early to complain about anything.

Rankings are going to change a lot this year. They'll be able to have summer camps in 2021 and that will help and they'll all play games next fall as well.  Outside of the top 100 or so, I don't think they are all that useful at the moment.
