For the last 15 years the QB bar has been pathetically low.  Zero 5 stars, at least consensus.  I think Gardner and Morris were 5 stars on some sites but not on others.

Denard was such amazing fun to watch...maddening at times, but always entertaining.

Henne was great, and the majority of the blame has to fall on Carr for not winning once against OSU with the talent on both sides of the ball with those teams.

JJ has a great chance to be an all time great.  I'm 43 and can't think of one Michigan QB that just lit up the competition and OSU and was truly special.  Lots of QB's that went on to be better in the NFL than at Michigan.

Nice find, OP. Have no idea what kind of a college player he'll be but the hype seems to be real and it can only be good for us to have a kid at this elite level hitting up the camp circuit and aggressively recruiting his peers for 2020 and 2021. There's been a least a couple kids who have already called out McCarthy as a reason they'd be looking at Michigan. With him carving up defenses in camps and getting aggressive on the recruiting trail, 2021 could be a special class.

Alpha Dog status is okay, I guess.  The write up sounded positive...  Seems like he might be good at football!

But in the 'WTH' department:

1. WR Muhsin Muhammad, Charlotte (N.C.) Myers Park

Didn't he retire from the NFL not too long ago?  What's he doing back in high school?  Dude's like Adam Sandler!

Thanks for the post.  A fun read, for sure.  A commit like this can certainly boost recruiting for Michigan.

I'd be surprised if Gattis is here for very long. 2-3 years seems most likely. He'll either win and get a great HC offer, or he'll be replaced just like Drev and Pep were before him. Hopefully JJ is committed to the program and not a coach or offensive scheme. 2021 is a long ways off and things may look quite different by the time he has a chance to see the field.

I'll be that guy today.  Shane Morris was a 7-on-7 stud.  Hope JJ can perform as well in live action with pads on and blitzers coming at full speed.

at least McCarthy's not a lefty? (#nopolitics #itshowhethrows)

When Morris dropped from 5-start to 4-star status (besides the Mono-shortened senior year) the knock on him was that he struggled with decision making and progressions. Add in that his arm strength, while an asset, was also a weakness in that he seemed to be a gunslinger and lacked touch at times.

The scouting on McCarthy I've seen all highlight him having good touch on his throws, great accuracy, and good decision making.
