2015 MBB Recruiting: Update - Mike Edwards adds 3 high-major offers; Duke/UCLA showing interest
I normally wouldn't post when a Michigan target receives offers from other schools. However, some of the Michigan basketball insiders think there's a good chance that the late-blooming PF/C out of nearby Westland John Glenn H.S., Mike Edwards, ends up in Michigan's 2015 class. Additionally, there was a bit of consternation in the thread about his lack of high major offers, so I thought I'd drop this to ease some of the concern about his ability to play at the next level.
According to multiple college hoops writers on Twitter, he worked out for a few college coaches yesterday at his high school. After the workout, he received offers from Pitt, Auburn, and Marquette. Expect more in the days to come.
UPDATE II: According to Edward's AAU coach, Duke and UCLA are now showing interest

I guess it comes down to whether Beilein wants Mike Edwards or Mortiz Wagner.

If LeVert goes pro, they can take both.

I think he'll stay. Apparently his mom really wants him to get his degree. Plus, Sam Webb has said a few times that he actually enjoys school, whereas Glenn and Trey didn't really like it that much.

Didn't Nik like school?

Nik "liked school," but was a guaranteed lottery to mid first round pick. Caris is a questionalble first round pick.

People enjoy school?
March 26th, 2015 at 10:58 AM ^
but there are people out there who really do.

That's the nightmare scenario though. We need Levert next year. The younger guys have already grown accustomed to heavy minutes, so we now have a two deep. This team can be dangerous now that Irvin has developed his game, and Walton will be at full strength.

the frontcourt will be just fine with 1. Caris's scholarship needs to go to a wing player. Preferably an elite play making wing.
Jaylen Brown would be nice.

Which one would you rather have? I would say Wagner merely because it seems many thinks he could go European pro right now so he must be pretty good, while Edwards seems like a project. That being said, I don't have much basketball recruiting knowledge

I would also take Wagner because he is more seasoned.
In Beilein, I trust.

Also considering its been said that Wagner would be a top 50 prospect type if he were from US, I would lean that way as well. If Levert comes back, this team could be special, we need players that can contribute right away. I think Edwards has potential, but he's a reshirt type.

I have little consternation with anything Beilein does. He's basically got Cate Blanchett to do whatever he wants.
(....22 Jump Street? Ehhh? EHHHH???)

"Additionally, there was a bit of consternation in the thread about his lack of high major offers"
at this point in the game, that actually seems like a point in the recruit's/Beilein's favor

We need quality Big men and our 3's to be able to play their natural spots instead of 4's Irvin is more of a 2 guard then anthing.

Is it just me, or was anyone else not really impressed with his highlights? He looks like a solid athlete and seems to move well for his size, but he is EXTREMELY raw. Several of his offensive highlights were throwing up awkward-looking shots that happened to fall--and those are "highlights". His set jumpers had pretty good form.
I just don't see the need to offer a scholarship with Teske coming in 2016, unless one of our current big men (Doyle, Donnal, or Wilson) are looking to transfer.
March 26th, 2015 at 11:42 AM ^
but some of it depends on what happens with Donnal and whether they view Wilson as a 4 or a 5. Assuming Wilson is a 5 then Moritz seems like a better fit. But if Wilson is a 4 and Donnal moves on then Edwards might be more needed.

What the hell do I know, but I still think we need big men on the roster immediately. 2016 is too far away.
The team simply cannot be as helpless on the boards and interior defense as they were last year. They need to be developing bodies that can take the Jordan Morgan role. Somebody said yesterday - screen, roll, dunk, rebound, defend, we need 5's with that ability. These big guys seem hard to project so the more the merrier.
Beilein seems to be effortless in his ability to develop guards and wings, less so big guys. Increased bodies help the odds.

Taking a look at his Rivals page, and there was until just now basically a distinct lack of high-end offers. Among those listed (and this is not updated to accommodate the OP's new information) are Akron, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Northern Illinois, Illinois State, UC Davis and a couple others. Nebraska offered him as well, according to this.

Auburn, Marquette, and Pitt aren't really basketball blue bloods.
March 26th, 2015 at 12:36 PM ^
Auburn's not, but Marquette and Pitt are consistently in the NCAA tournament and near the top of their conference. Steve Wojo has put together a monster class at Marquette and Jamie Dixon is a very solid coach.
