So this is an invention of the modern field hockey game - traditionally the game was played on grass a slower surface, where stickhandling was paramount, with wristy finishes. The modern game is played on astroturf, where the ball moves too fast (almost skidding) so it's hard to mount a tactical attack. Therefore the game gets mucked up to where it's just dump it in the scoring circle, and try to draw a penalty corner

I mean that's how it's been accepted in the US, but historically the best teams were from India, where villagers used to beat their colonial overlords by scores of 12-0. Fun fact, Britain did not send a field hockey team to the Olympics from 1928 (Field Hockey's modern debut in the Olympics) until 1948, when London hosted, due to fears that they would get embarrassed by one of their colonies.

It's only in the US where it's an elite east coast women's prep sport.

I am not watching, and do not know what you're talking about, but I have been watching lots of women's soccer with my daughter, who is fanatical. And lots of times when the camera pauses on a player's posterior, my wife and daughter start cussing. I keep my mouth and tongue firmly where they belong, but it is a reminder that admiring people's bodies and watching them do astonishing things with them is part of the appeal of sport. Going all the way back to the first Olympics.

Man, I gotta say that I pride myself on understanding many sports but field hockey confuses me quite a bit, but I'm rooting like crazy for our Lady Wolverines!

Even though we have the lead it feels like Iowa had played better,  our passing has been suspect, hold on to the lead and add on to it, Go Blue!!!!

I mean they have pretty significantly outplayed Michigan overall and penalty corners are mostly from balls hitting feet in the penalty area where Iowa has had significantly more pressure than Michigan.

Michigan took a deeply stupid and clear penalty that put them down a player for 5 of the last 7 minutes and Iowa poured it on pressure wise. Hope to be wrong but Iowa looks like the better team, Michigan has like 3 shots this game and can’t posses the ball at all
