#17 Men's Lacrosse Hosts Canisius Today 3PM
If you liked February lacrosse, how about some midweek, midday February lacrosse?! Michigan (3-0), now ranked #17 takes on Canisius (1-1) at 3PM today at the State Street facility; the game will be streamed on BTN+.
Michigan is ranked #17 in the latest IL Media poll (tied with Delaware), having cruised through its first three games, averaging 21 goals/game while letting up an average of 7 goals against. Canisius is coming off a 13-11 win over Bellarmine on Saturday.
Again, not much to say about an early season cupcake game but hopefully Michigan has no problem and can keep it rolling. GO BLUE!

So, halftime M leads 11-8. A little too close for comfort for my tastes. Pesky Canisius has been keeping it close , it looked like Michigan was up 1 for most of the half before going on a run to stretch it to 10-6. But hopefully they turn it on in the 2nd half.

22-10 lead, 11 minutes left in the 4th quarter.

Michigan now up 22-10 in the 4th. [a second late with the update - mea culpa]

Yeah, we really turned it on in the 3rd quarter. What a great way to distract myself from the workday.
Early offense and transition really paid off in the 2nd half. It was there some in the first half, but we weren't quite burying the shots. This is an exciting team to watch.

Final score ends up 23-10, phew. Michigan really turned it on and buried Canisius in the second half. Michigan moves to 4-0 and faces Cleveland State on Saturday, which will be the last easy/should-win game on the schedule before a stretch of Marquette, Delaware and ND.
Delaware lost to Duke this afternoon,19-14. I was jonesing to watch a game and since M plays them next Saturday, I turned that on for a bit. Delaware seems well-coached but they had some undisciplined stretches that hurt them. They didn't strike me as particularly athletic and they got scorched on F/Os. I don't know if Duke is particularly dominant in that dept, but that bodes well for Michigan. That should be a good matchup and Michigan's first true test of the season (it'll be weird to watch two teams with winged helmets on the field at the same time).
Anyway, good W today. GO BLUE!!!

@L'Carpetron: four straight wins with 20 or more goals each game, is our early-season offensive success sustainable?

Come and see for yourself on 3/12 robf. I’ll save you the best seat in the Stadium against Harvard and then Mel’s young men will most likely be dropping the puck at 7pm( 6??, 8:30??? yeah BTN ). I’ll treat you to some Mr. Spots between games.

Robf, good q. The answer is: I sure hope so, but I imagine the scores will start coming back down to earth against stiffer competition. But, still, it's nice to see that sort of offensive explosion for Michigan, that's something they typically haven't had in past years.
It's kind of crazy how high scoring the game is now. It's very much an offensive game (says a disgruntled and biased former defenseman). It seems like every sport is experiencing an offensive renaissance these days and lacrosse is no different. There have already been a ton of Div. 1 games this year with scores in the 20s. Michigan also has an excellent offensive player, Josh Zawada, who put up 7 goals (+3 A) today and he's been the key for them. So here's to hoping Zawada and Michigan can keep it rolling.

L'Carp I was a goalie and the thought of seeing substantially more shots- let's just say I'm glad I played in a less offensive era
