#13 W Lacrosse breaks program single season wins record in 17-2 rout

#13 Michigan finally returned to their real home at U-M Lacrosse Stadium for the first time since February 17. Michigan was unranked the last time they stepped on their home field.

Since then the Wolverines beat #14 Colorado, #9 Denver and Cincinnati in a home game played in Brighton indoors.

Today Michigan took on Kent State, an 0-5 team in their first season of varsity lacrosse. A game that on paper you could name the score of.

Kent State struck first with a goal but that would be their first of just two goals on the day as Michigan dominated the Golden Flashes as expected.

Adriana Pendino had 4 goals in the first half with the 4th being with 8 seconds left before halftime. Michigan led 12-1 at halftime, led 31-4 in shots and led 22-1 in shots on goal. Kent State's goalie made 10 saves with Michigan's Mira Shane needing to make just 1 save. She basically just stood around and watched the first half as 95% of the game was played in Kent State territory.

Michigan emptied the bench in the second half as Arielle Weissman replaced Mira Shane in the cage. Two seniors scored their first goals of the season in Megan Schulte and Maddie Klee. Their teammates were going crazy on the sidelines when the reserves even checked into the game much less when they scored.

Michigan added 5 goals in the second half to Kent State's 1 as the Wolverines trampled Kent State 17-2.

Much of the second half was played with a running clock. Shots were 43-9, shots on goal 32-3, 24-11 in groundballs. Draw control battle was 10-10 so I'm sure Hannah Nielsen brought that up in the locker room after the game.

Last season Michigan set the program single season win record with 7 wins in their 7-10 season. Today's win breaks the record as Michigan is now 8-0 on the season.

Much tougher test on Sunday. Michigan will take on #25 Towson who is 0-5 on the season with every loss of theirs to ranked teams.

My first time seeing the team this season in person.

After last game coach Hannah Nielsen said "(Michigan) learned a very valuable lesson today" referring to the team possibly taking Cincinnati lightly. Michigan trailed Cincinnati 6-4 at halftime in that game before pulling away late.

If there was any team on the schedule to take lightly it was Kent State. Awesome to see them put out so quickly and thoroughly.

Wait ... you come over for an early game on a Friday night and don’t even stop by the south plaza to look for me? You know what I look like and know that I appreciate your posts; so say hello on your way to the M-Den or to get a hot chocolate. (I’m on the north side for men’s lacrosse).
