1/2 OT: IMDb featuring umich.edu and Harrison Ford

So today IMDb.com features a umich.edu article.  For those not familiar with the site (I'm assuming most, at least as far as reading articles and what have you) this is very uncommon.  Typically the featured articles are from other film websites, however, the Center for Japanese Studies at UM has been highlighted today.  Most around here are probably not familiar with Yasujiro Ozu, a famous Japanese director (Tokyo Story being his most well known), but he is the subject of the article.  Most probably won't find it too interesting, but I personally found it interesting that one of the other websites I frequently visit featured the Michigan website today.  Also, I watch a lot of older Japanese movies, so I've seen a lot of Ozu's films.

Link: http://www.umich.edu/~iinet/cjs/publications/cjsfaculty/Bordwell.html

Perhaps of slightly more interest to people around the board: Happy Birthday Harrison Ford.  He is 68 today, comes out with a new movie in the Fall called 'Morning Glory' (it's not about what you're thinking perv) that actually looks pretty good. Hopefully it gets him out of the sort of slump that he's in (but really, can Harrison Ford actually go into a slump or are people just not seeing the awesomeness that is the legend? I'm guessing the latter). For me and most, he will always be best remembered for Indiana Jones, Han Solo, the blade runner Rick Deckard, and Sgt. Joe Gavilan from Hollywood Homicide... well maybe not the last one.

EDIT: Seeing the mass of OT buttered on the board right now, maybe not the best time for this.  Sorry, two more appeared as I was typing it

I know, I know

But I couldn't list them all because the list would be too long... or could I...

  • Jack Ryan (Clear and Present Danger / Patriot Games)
  • Dr. Richard Kimble (The Fugitive)
  • The President of the United States of America James Marshall (Air Force One)
  • John Book (Witness)
  • Norman Spencer (What Lies Beneath)

Ok, I can't do it, there are too many.  Seriously, the guy had a great run of movies from the 70s to the 90s

I guess my problem came from

Blade Runner being listed and The Fugitive or Air Force One not even being mentioned.

Touche

I should have listed names based on personal experience or IMDb votes, rather than IMDb rating.

Sorry man

but Air Force One is a terrible movie (except for the scenes showing UM football on tv,) and one that should be forgotten by all.

No "Presumed Innocent" ??

Sorry, way better than AFO and I already had read the book. Also, don't dis Bladerunner. It is a bit dated now, but it was cutting edge when it came out and it still is a classic.

He was a University of Michigan alumnus when he played the President of the United States. We beat Notre Dame in that one. Its my favorite part of that movie

Fugitive

Fugitive and Witness both better than AFO.

By the way, didn't HF's wife or ex-wife write the screenplay to Seven Years in Tibet?

Thx

What Lies Beneath, Regarding Henry

What Lies Beneath really surprised me, I saw it in the theater, and went in with zero expectations.  It's a suspense thriller, I recommend it.  Regarding Henry is excellent, and he should have gotten serious oscar consideration for it.

GET OFF MY PLANE

Perhaps one of our most famous fake alums in Air Force One

Did we beat OSU in that fake game that was playing as he boarded the plane?

It was Notre Dame we were

It was Notre Dame we were playing (that I know off the bat)...and if memory serves me well the guy who finally tells him the score says "14-13 Michigan. Alright, Mr. President!"

Beat me too it...

Beat me too it....however...just googled it and the game that they showed was ACTUALLY the 1992 game that ended in a 17-17 tie. Impress your friends.
