'14 LB Deon Drake commits to msu
September 23rd, 2012 at 1:09 PM ^
Although neither of those players had Michigan offers. Any thoughts on whether or not Drake would have gotten a Michigan offer?
September 23rd, 2012 at 1:12 PM ^
Probably not. Cass currently has 3 potential D1 level LBs, but UM already has a LB commit for 2014 and has taken 6 in the last 2 recruiting classes combined.

Probably heard that Gameday was going to be in East Lansing next weekend and wanted to get in on that shit.

No Mich or OSU offer. Not worried.

So Deon Drake would have never received a Michigan offer.

I'm confident if he didn't have an offer, then we'll be ok. Plus if you take into account our linebacking corps is predominantly sophmores and freshmen, then I think we should be ok depth wise for a couple of years. Also we have a commit at LB for 2014 already and by everyone's accounts he's a good one.

Offers included Notre Dame and Nebraska, so he's obviously well thought of at this level.

I think Drake is the best of the 3 junior LBs at Cass this season, and would probably have recieved an offer at some point if Michigan misses on other targets down the road. But it seems like the coaches are being very careful with offers as kids have been commiting very early and there isn't as much room in the 2014 class. They already have a pretty damn good LB in Ferns, and I'm sure there are other players who are higher on their list than Drake.
No reason to worry about getting the pick of the litter from Cass Tech until MSU gets a player who Michiganoffered first.

I agree that he's better than the other two D-I linebacker prospects at Cass Tech. I'm not a huge fan of his abilities, though. He could be a solid player, but I don't think he's a future star.

I don't know where you are located, but East Lansing is Northwest of Ann Arbor.
Of course this is just a prick from the center of the universe talking...
September 23rd, 2012 at 1:27 PM ^
Ferns > Drake.
September 23rd, 2012 at 1:38 PM ^
Ferns > Drake < Bolden, Stone, Ross, and maybe even Gedeon.
September 23rd, 2012 at 1:41 PM ^
The Maths of the Universe may strike you down for that one.
If you were programming in BASIC, you'd probably get a SYNTAX ERROR.
September 23rd, 2012 at 2:00 PM ^
Forgive me, please. B.S. in Policital Science...... but graduated in three years if that goes for anything with my mathematical errors. Regardless: our linebackers > State's linebackers.
September 23rd, 2012 at 2:07 PM ^
When you are worried, just add more brackets.
(Ferns > Drake) < (Bolden, Stone, Ross, and maybe even Gedeon)
That would still give syntax errors in a lot of programming languages, but it is a step closer.
(Ferns OR Drake) < (Bolden OR Stone OR Ross OR Gedeon) would be the best way to go however.
September 23rd, 2012 at 2:54 PM ^
Is that what he's trying to say? That would include Ferns not being as good as anyone else we have. I read it as seperate equtions:
Drake < Ferns
Drake < Bolden
....
Drake < Gedeon
Which you can shrink into one string with the OR method you displayed.

posts about MSU, le sigh

There are still better LBs in the midwest and nation.

Clifton Garrett deserves an offer before Deon Drake...
September 23rd, 2012 at 2:53 PM ^
That guy is a heat seaking missile. I don't know how you could not offer him.

We were definitly slow playing the kid. He would've been considered for a scholie, but not until later in the game. He probably made the right choice in regards to what is best for him... i.e. a school that seems to love him.
no worries on our end.
September 23rd, 2012 at 2:35 PM ^
Congrats to Drake. And, good for State. They are going to need all the help they can get in a couple years.

Seems like a good kid, but he didn't have very many good things to say about Michigan after a visit, didn't seem like he was a Michign man, said something to the effect of he wasn't too impressed with Michigan.
Good luck to him, but we've got better options among the kids who want to come here.

We are stacked at LB and I am sure the coaches intend on being very picky at that position. I am pretty sure someone has stated that already. Possibly Magnus. lol
September 23rd, 2012 at 4:17 PM ^
I can't beleive people are discrediting his abilities. There's only so many scholarships to hand out every year. We can't get everyone! It's not like Dantonio is just picking up the scraps ...

didnt have the grades anyway.

Great player or good player? There was Clarence Williams, who was pretty good. I also like Thomas Gordon.
September 23rd, 2012 at 11:06 PM ^
I'll even take good. Seems like there is a high percentage of busts out of Cass Tech. Not sure why.
September 24th, 2012 at 11:26 AM ^
He said Busts.
September 23rd, 2012 at 11:27 PM ^
Drake is a nice pickup for State. He's like Reschke and Jones from the '13 class. I wouldn't trade our guys for them, but I am not looking forward to facing them over the next couple of years.
