I didn't mean for my post to come across as a correction.  I had a sense for what you meant.    Growing up under a naval officer I'm oh so familiar with Reveilles and Manifestos!  I thought the reference to the Praetorian Guard was spot.  @MGoShoe, indeed much better article.  Seasons almost here so maybe the RR sidebars and comparisons will reside where they should - in the past.  Wait!  Who the hell am I kidding.

...Woodson in a companion Greenstein piece that's frankly more interesting to Michigan fans than the first piece.

-- Woodson was the man who sacked New England's Tom Brady in the 2002 "Tuck Rule" game. The play was ruled an incomplete pass rather than a fumble.

"That's my guy," Woodson said of Brady, a fellow Michigan man. "But he knows that was some bull-(stuff)."

How did he react when you told him that?

"He said, 'Yeah, I know,'" Woodson said. "They all know."

-- Woodson said it would be cool if he remains the only primarily defensive player in college football history to win the Heisman Trophy. But Woodson voted for Nebraska's Ndamukong Suh in 2009.

"It was unbelievable the way he threw people around," Woodson said.

As for his beating out Peyton Manning in 1997, Woodson recalled being stunned: "I thought it was in the bag for Peyton."

...it's just that Charles wasn't "one of them."

I'm shocked, shocked to find that there is gambling in the casino.  Round up the usual suspects.

Charles turned a Michigan game off in the 2nd quarter. And to think, I honestly made it through the entire 3 years without turning off a single game. Don't ask how. I might have lowered my attention span and went on Mgo to vent a lot. But I never turned off a game early. Even the bowl game last year I managed to get through all 4.

"..."The philosophy of my strength coach at Michigan (Mike Gittleson) was 'No stretching,' " Woodson recalled. "If you're walking across the street and a car is going to hit you, will you stop to stretch?"
