Wallpaper Season - Redemption

Submitted by jonvalk on

First in a series I'm working on.  I'm on vacation starting Saturday, so nothing new for a bit.  Hope ya'll like this.  As always, constructive criticism and/or suggestions for new wallpapers are welcome.  I will diligently try to make content that the MGoBlog community wants.  I'm adding two versions of this wallpaper (one with "Redemption" under the M, and one without) and a mobile version will follow shortly.  It's getting closer...

YES!  Thank you Jon.  While I love how good most Michigan wallpapers look I have always been partial to a darker colored background for my computer so this is perfect for me.  Just sent this guy to my work email to switch it up there!

I love your work.. And I really don't use wallpapers.  Would love an appropriately sized 'wall paper' for a facebook picture...

(You know, with all the extra time you have, LOL)

I want to say few thanks to Dr Gboco, for the wonderful work he did for me last week, my husband ask for a divorce letter because of the little misunderstanding we heard in the past few month, And also i never wanted this because all our investment was a joint business and i don't have to be far away from my family and my two lovely kids. My friend told me about Dr Gboco Email: gbocotemple@ yahoo.com and how he also help him so i have to contact him because i want to stop my husband from completing the divorce letter and i want to keep my family together and after contacting him, i was told what i needed to do and when i was going to start seeing the result and after which my husband call me and start asking for my forgiveness and it was all like a dream to me and we are all living happily together again all thanks to Dr Gboco.

My personal favorites in wallpaper are generic, not specific to a single player or phrase. Focusing on team aspects, the Bighouse, a Block M etc.

My wallpaper is still actually the Naughty or Nice Block M from MonuMental.

It would be great if you (jonvalk) could also give a little explanation of the thought process of how you came up with a particular theme, design, motif, whatever. I find that I enjoy that as much as the end products themselves. Thanks!

I think this one came out of the emotion I felt seeing multiple pictures of Devin just looking destroyed. This particular photo that I cut up was captioned "Michigan's Devin Gardner is comforted by Ohio State's Braxton Miller after a 42-41 loss."

That just mentally beat me up. I know the rivalry has become quite one-sided in wins, but living in Columbus I can see where the caption is coming from. Ohio State pities Michigan and secretly wishes for its revival as a contender. I see it from their fans, the media, everything. No one expects greatness from Michigan football anymore. Not one person thinks we'll contend for the Big Ten this year.

I guess it's that pain I saw on Devin's face, a mirror of the pain the football program has been through - that its fans have been through - that made me hope for redemption not only for Devin, but also for Michigan, in general.

As to the design aspect of the wallpaper itself, I've always loved simplicity, but it's hard to get right in art. I used the dark theme because honestly, it's what makes the block M stand out. I also prefer darker backgrounds for my computer (as I found out, so do some of you). The crumbling M was more style and mood. The program is a bit shaky and the block M is not as polished and strong in football as it used to be.

Anyway, that's a little insight into what my creative process was spurred by. I'll be honest, this is the first one that a single photo determined how I'd proceed. Usually, I try for themes and then find a photo/imagery that fits. For instance, all the recruiting success became the "visit fabulous Michigan Stadium" travel-themed wallpaper last year. Then, I was reading up on the Chippewa as a people and discovered their affiliation with the creation of dream catchers, hence the dream catcher theme for last years schedule/opener wallpaper. That's my normal process. TL:DR, I know.

Wow. Ok. This was more a wallpaper aimed at DG, but your cynicism is noted. I tend to not want to alienate a large majority of Michigan fans with my work, so I steer clear of "this team sucks" themes.

But to answer your question, I'm a huge believer that no one is ever too far gone for redemption, so I'd gladly use this theme no matter how bad/long the team sucked.
