Here's where we stand so far for scholarships for next year, and how many more commits we can take. There seems to be a lot of confusion out there. Just because we can theoretically take 28 kids in a class doesn't mean we have that much room. If anyone sees any errors, please let me know! I think it reflects all defections at this time. Tom - can we pin this? QB (5) 1. Steve Threet 2. Nick Sheridan 3. David Cone 4. Tate Forcier 5. Shavodrick Beaver RB (9) 6. Brandon Minor 7. Carlos Brown 8. Mike Shaw 9. Kevin Grady 10. Mike Cox 11. Yes, Sheridan earned a scholarship and will get to keep it the rest of the way. We're not 'Bama. But seriously, as scary as the prospect may sound, we go into next year likely with Sheridan 4th on the depth chart behind Beaver, Forcier, Threet (not in that order). If Threet goes down early, and neither freshman is effective (not out of the realm of possibility considering they're freshmen in a position of snap decision-making), that former walk-on who has 12 games and a Brown Jug under his belt is a better option than, say, David Cone.

Nick Sheridan is a walk-on Mark Moundros is also a walk-on, I think. By "walk-on," I mean they came to Michigan without signing letters of intent. Whether they get a scholarship this year or next year is a separate question, and up to the coaching staff.

Savoy and Criswell may not scholarships renewed for a fifth year, considering they never got much PT. That would free two more slots. I would expect Moundrous keeps his schollie (assuming he has one already)--he plays 10 or more snaps a game. Sheridan may not keep his, who knows.

A couple points: 1. Moundros is going to get a lot of snaps next year, and thus I'd be shocked if they didn't allow him to keep his scholarship. Guys that are walk-ons who become major contributors (like Moundros) tend to get to keep their scholarships. Guys like Zach Johnson, for instance, almost assuredly won't unless we end the recruiting season with extras. 2. Sheridan. I suspect he'll keep his too, as he's (technically) going to be in the running to be the starting QB next year (no, I don't expect him to win the job, but he's theoretically still in it) and will probably see time. I would say Moundros is more likely to get to keep his than Sheridan. But to be honest, I'd be surprised if either didn't get one next year.
