The Blockhams in "SPECIAL CHARACTER"
When we last left off with our heroes...
DESMOND BLOCKHAM WAS IN AN ACCIDENT LAST WEEK
that may or may not have involved, well, a Twosie. A tandem bicycle.
He was then DIAGNOSED WITH A STRANGE CONDITION which
in turn prompted him to attempt to walk on to the Michigan
football team. After being mauled on a controversial play
that some readers say drew the ire of the football gods,
DESMOND WAS OFFERED A SPOT ON THE TEAM
by Coach Hoke. And so he was sent to the
equipment manager to get his uniform...

Yeah, I know this isn't how it works. But pretty much every story I've ever heard about Big Jon Falk is that he's a pretty nice guy and has helped thousands of people out over the years. Besides, we're talking about a scrawny kid who's been invited onto the team because of some bizarre medical condition straight out of a bad Syfy made-for-TV movie. So perhaps you can suspend your disbelief regarding the appropriate process for assigning uniform numbers to walk-ons as well.
As of the time of this writing there are currently no semi-colon jerseys
available for sale at the MDen. But it is, after all, only spring.
Friday Fun will probably make fun of the word Jayhawk in some way. Go Blue.

if this whole making the team thing and getting a jersey is a sort of coma/fever dream from his accident, i am going to be a little disappointed.
Hey, no spoilers!
Honestly, no. I have no plans to pull some cheesy sitcom solution or comic book ret-con to wrap this storyline. Without going all exclusive story, I can say that this idea is as old as the strip itself. Last January I had thoughts of putting a character inside the Glick to interact with caricatures of players and staff. My initial concept was a new character, perhaps a cousin, with a bizarre threshold for pain that earned the spot. I dropped it simply because I didn't want to start adding new characters so early in the game.
And then I kind of forgot about it until a few weeks ago. When the writers started talking about spring practice it hit me-- and I just thought I could streamline the idea by finding a way to make it Desmond. It won't be a permanent development-- but I'm toying with the idea of keeping him on the team for next season. What do you guys think... Finish it now or let him play in the fall?
You can't just drop him on us and then cut him! The kid has potential. Play him in the fall!
Go Blue!
We find out who shot J.R., I don't care.
Desmond is crazy if he's turning down #20!

After last week's episode in which Jake Ryan took out half of his large intestine on one hit, the semi-colon is appropriate.

Desmond either needs to go Rudy on us (capture the meme from ND)
or he has to go "Desmond" and end with the heisman pose.
