Tommy Doman Jr. Commits to Michigan
I should've known a second commitment would go down today; they come in pairs, after all. Following the lead of four-star tight end Louis Hansen, Orchard Lake (MI) St. Mary's kicker/punter Tommy Doman Jr. announced his pledge to Michigan tonight, and he's coming in on a full scholarship:

Doman is the #3 kicker and #4 punter in the country according to Kohl's Kicking, while Kornblue Kicking ranks him as the #8 kicker and #2 punter in the 2021 class. He chose Michigan from an announced top ten that also included Air Force, Army, Boston College, Colorado State, Dartmouth, Navy, Penn, Washington State, and Western Michigan. Last month, he committed to play in the All-American Bowl (fka the Army All-American Bowl).
He has a highlight reel!
Yes, that really is OLSM's field.
Doman is Michigan's sixth commit in the class; he's the first, and I'm going to presume will remain the only, scholarship specialist in the class. A full Hello post will come next week, I guess? Hansen's will be on the front page tomorrow afternoon.
Woohoo, OL, TEs and Kickers...
Yes, all positions that have to be recruited...
Can't live with them. Can't live without 'em.
Those punts I see on film are just awesome.
For me, these commitments are literally the most exciting events in sports during this period with no actual games. Like by far.
Hope he ends up kicking.
"Touchback Tommy" just doesn't work for a punter.
Hansen today, Budin soon.
Not a bad week.
Cheers
Helluva leg, helluva leg.
I'm not a recruiting basher and I don't mind giving scholarships to specialists. It would be interesting, however, to do the research on the production of walk-on kickers vs. scholarship kickers, over the last 30 years, or so. I realize that you would not want to lose someone like Nordin to PSU just because you wouldn't offer a scholarship. But, I'm just wondering how the production stacks up.
I do not know the stats but most of the big hitters have scholarship specialists. Not a 2 deep but it is common now to have punters, kickers, and even long snappers on scholarship.
I was thinking the opposite: you may have a guy who can punt and kick, thus freeing up a scholly for another recruit or a walk-on who has earned it.
I have always wondered why punting and kicking are so specialized. Going to a small HS 30 years ago our kicker /punter was also the starting tailback and linebacker.
